Our interview was Feb. 21, 2013. All interviews are scheduled at 7:00. We got there about 6:30. There are two lines one to the left and one to the right. After going back and forth between lines trying to figure out which one we needed to be in we finally made it to the correct line....the one to the left of the doors.
When they finally let you in you have to go through security. No electronic devices are allowed. They even made us check our keys at the door because it had a keyless entry remote on the keychain. Once inside you wait for your name to be called. We were one of the first called because our petition was for a minor. Once they call your name you go up to the window. They will go through all of your paperwork and ask for anything that may be missing from your packet original birth certificates etc.. They will collect your medical results. They ask us a few questions but not many. I am US citizen and I petitioned for my husbands biological child who is 3. They asked how long we had been married. How many times we had visited his daughter since our marriage. At the end he asked for pictures of my husband and me and pictures of my husband with his daughter. I had two small 4X6 photo albums one for our pictures and the other was a photo album of my husband and the baby's Skype calls. (we had no pictures of them together) The guy gave us a bad look because we didn't have actual pictures of them together. He told us to take a seat and we would be called back for an interview. We waited about another 15 minutes before we called into a small room. There was a lady sitting behind a window who greeted us and told us take a seat.
She asked who we were. It was me, my husband, and his daughter present for the interview. She asked my husband a couple of questions about how he got his greencard. She asked about his relationship with the biological mom (they were never married) She just wanted to know timeframe. She asked how long we had been married, when we met, What kind of wedding we had. She asked if we had a letter from the biological mom saying we could take the baby to live with us and was it notarized. We gave that to her. I had a binder with everything they could possibly ask for: receipts for money and gifts sent, phone records, affadavits from friends verifying his relationship with the biological mom. She didn't ask for any of it. She said she had looked through the pictures and they Skype screenshots were a great idea. She said everyone says they Skype but we have no proof they really do. The pictures showed how the baby had changed over the months. She told us our visa was approved and we could come back that afternoon to pick it up at 2:45. She also thanked us for being so organized and having everything ready. We were so excited. She was so nice. She said congratulations but don't buy your plane tickets until you have the visa in hand. Our interview was on Thursday. That afternoon we went to pick up the visa and they said to look over everything to make sure there were no mistakes. All the numbers were correct name was correct but it said her marital status was "Married".....she is 3 yrs old. When I told them about the mistake they told me Oh I'm sorry. You will have to come back on Monday to get your corrected visa. I asked if there was anyway it could be corrected sooner. He said no we have to order visas by noon and we don't issue on Friday so Monday is the earliest it will be available at 2:45. We were not happy about this but nothing we could do except stay the weekend in Honduras. On Monday we went back and the visa still showed Married. I just about had a breakdown. When I told them they told me to have a seat and they would call me again in a few minutes. They issued everyone else's visa before they got back to me. When I went up there they gave me the corrected visa. I'm pretty sure they had just printed it because the ink still felt wet. Whatever, we were just glad to have it in hand!! When you go pick up your visa you have to have the little card saying that you were told to come back to get visa. Everyone is told to come at 2:45. There is no reason to get there early because everyone gets let in at the same time. Only one person is allowed to go in and get the visa. Again, you have to go through security and no electronic devices are allowed. It takes 30 minutes or more by the time they call everyone. Look at your visa VERY CAREFULLY there were several people who had mistakes on theirs.
