Overall my wife's interview experience was a fairly pleasant experience. I did not attend it with her. All of her interview was conducted in Spanish.
My wife's appointment was scheduled for 8 AM. She arrived at 6:15 AM and already there were 3 people waiting for entry. Within the next 30 minutes there was a very long line, as she describes it: "una cola como en el día de cobro de los jubilados en la puerta del banco de la nación" or "a line like at the Banco de la Nacion on retirement payday."
They started letting people in at 7 AM. She suggests having your phone and any electronic devices already turned off and ready to store at the entry because they will send you back in the line if you are not ready.
After entry, she was asked to wait in a room with other interviewees. After about 10 minutes they then called her to a window where they took her medical exam packet, passport, and passport photos. The window attendant also asked her two questions - "Where and how did you meet your spouse" and "How many times did he come to visit you after you were married?"
She then waited again for her consular officer interview, about another 30 minutes. The interview with the consular officer was fairly quick as well. She said he was very nice and kind. He reviewed our documents and asked the same questions as the window assistant. He looked over our photos together and didn't really ask a direct question, but said that it looked like we had traveled together substantially. My wife said, yes, and told him about all the places we had visited together when we lived together in Lima during our first year of marriage and after when I had to return to the US to finish up my last year of grad school. After that he told her she was approved! He returned the copies of our documentation, but kept the originals (I forgot to tell my wife to ask for originals, but since we have other original copies I am not too worried about it).
She left the embassy at 8:30, so a total of 1.5 hours of waiting in the embassy plus 45 minutes waiting outside in line. As she was leaving she said the line to get in was still extremely long - longer than when she was waiting to get in.
