Overview:
There are about 4 different appointment time periods, 7am, 7.30am, 8am, and 8.30am. The appointment time does not matter, The line for IV starts at 6am. I got in line at 6.38 am for a 8am appointment. Security will start coming out and putting out signs for IV, NIV, and citizen services around 7.10 am. At 7.30 am security will start letting people into the embassy. 4 cases at a time and they rotate between IV and NIV. This embassy does follow the first come first serve. Get in line early and you will leave early. This embassy processes IV and NIV at the same time, so if you're #3 for IV, that means you're about #6 in the line.
This embassy processes about 30 cases a day, IV and NIV. There was 15 IV cases, including mine on Feb. 13. Of this 15, 5 got approved, while others were denied, put into AP, or required additional documents. Have all relationship documents ready, This embassy will take all documents you have and will review all of them. This will help your case. The petitioner can attend the interview. If the petitioner attends, most of the questions are ask to the petitioner.
Process:
Get in line early.
No bags are allowed, only documents. Security will make you remove all documents from any form of bags and hold it in your hands.
After security, there is a second security that checks your name off and gives the petitioner a visitor badge.
Enter, proceed to window 7; get a number and give your passport.
Take a seat and wait to be called at window 2-3.
Window 2-3 will take for document in-take and verify your applicant.
Take a seat and wait for finger prints at window 5.
Window 5 will call and take fingerprints.
Take a seat again and wait for interview from an american consular.
The american consular will call cases based on when it was completed during the pervious steps.
American consular will ask questions are make a decision. This part of the interview is about 5-15 minutes.
Questions:
Questions vary by cases. If your relationship is real, then there are no issues. The usual questions about how you're met, etc will be asked first followed by questions to prove a true relationship. Typically about 70-90% questions are asked to the petitioner and 10-30% to the beneficiary.
Timeline:
6.38am - joined line, 5 people ahead of me.
7.40am- got ticket from window 7.
8am- called for document in-take.
8.30am- fingerprints.
9.40am-interview.
10am- out of embassy.
Visa pick-up is the friday of the following week.
