Review Topic: K1 Visa

Granted, we have a rather unusual situation in the fact that we currently live together in China and were processed through the Guangzhou consulate, even though my fiancee is German.

In general, they processed our case quickly. Much faster than for a Chinese person. So, we have no complaints about waiting periods. There were no major mishaps by the consulate, and we ultimately got the visa.

The only complaints that we have revolve around the consulate being disorganized.
1.) The people from the consulate that we had contact with spoke very broken english (aside from the visa officer), and they didn't fully understand our responses. I know this is China, but we were dealing with employees of the US consulate, right? When we went for the interview, the guard manning the door couldn't read english and he had trouble figuring out what country my fiancee is from.

2.) About a week before our interview, we received a call from someone at the consulate saying that they had not received the DS-230 form, and without it they could not schedule an interview. Hmmm, seems funny considering we had the interview appointment letter in-hand for three weeks already.

3.) During the interview, there was a man standing behind the visa officer (supervisor maybe?). The man repeatedly told the visa officer to deny our visa. The visa officer disagreed with him. Finally the visa officer got tired of him and called him aside for a conference. After they talked for 10-15 minutes, the visa officer returned to the window and stated that the visa would be granted. The man was obviously frustrated by the decision to grant the visa. Not sure who this man was, or why he was trying to give input. Seems that he didn't know the policies and procedures well. Strange event to say the least.
