Review Topic: K1 Visa

My appointment time was 8:30. I arrived around 8:20 and got into the "Other Services" line (the one on the right). After checking in, I had to go through a security check (you are allowed to bring food and beverages in as long as they are not in glass bottles) and then entered the waiting room, where I had to wait in the far right corner. After about fifteen minutes, a nice German lady called me to the first window and collected my passport and photos. I then had to sit down again. After another ten minutes I was called to another window, and a German guy went through my papers with me. He explained the procedures for the K1 visa to me (like you have to get married within 90 days) and showed me a sample of the sealed envelope and medical that I would receive after the visa has been issued. I was then to sit down again. I then waited for another hour until I was called for the final interview. This time I talked to an American consular officer in English. At first he was not very friendly and responded very harshly when I asked a question about our petition. He became more friendly during the course of the interview, though. Questions asked:

- How did you meet your fiance?
- Where does your fiance live?
- How many times did you visit your fiance in the States? When was that?
- How many times did your fiance visit you in Germany? When?
- When did you get engaged? How did that happen?
- What do you do for a living?
- What does your fiance do for a living?
- Does your fiance still live with his parents? Where will you live?

Then a little bit of small talk, and that was about it. He told me that he would approve my visa and gave me back my originals. The visa arrived a few days later.
