I got to the Johannesburg American Consulate at 12:30 for the 1pm appointment. Waited outside til they let us in one by one, dropped of my cell phone and medical sealed envelope at the security check, then proceeded to the main area to wait.
It took very quickly- there was hardly anyone there and everyone was very efficient and friendly.
I was called up to a window to give my fingerprints and 2 x colour U.S passport size photos. The lady at that window asked me some detailed questions about my relationship with my husband, where we met, how long , what we both did for work, etc. She asked my for a copy of the Affadavit of Support which I had, and all his tax transcripts which I did not have. I told her they should have this as he had sent them to the NVC and they had approved that part of our application. She seemed ok with this.
Then, that was over and she told me to wait by window 7. Then a lovely man who had interviewed me for my visitor visa in June (which got denied) interviewed me again. I had to raise my right hand and swear that all I was about to say was the truth. I used the telephone as everyone is waiting there and can hear you if you talk loudly...and some of the info is quite personal! You may want to use the telephone for both window interviews, too.
Again, he asked where we met and how, about my previous visits, what work I do and what my husband does, and when I would like to move over there. I said- in all reality- as soon as possible! So he said - okay - you can collect your passport here tomorrow with the visa in it and the IV sealed packet - and I said really? and he said - Really! with a smile.
And I left with a big prayer of thanks and gratitude in my heart....
So- if you have all your documents in order, it will be fine. and your medical / police certificates and make sure you have a copy of your affidavits of support from your US spouse.
