My interview was scheduled at 8:30, but I wanted to be sure to be there on time and I wasn't sure how long it would take to get to the embassy from my hotel, so I arrived around 7:45. There was already a line in front of the embassy...just one line...but thanks to visajourney I knew there had to be 2 lines, but I thought maybe I was the first for the immigration line then. I asked the security guard and he showed me where I should be. It was cold, rainy and windy, and I left without an umbrella or anything, so I really hoped they would let me in fast.
After waiting for 10 mins the guard told me that they wouldn't let me in before 9.... Seriously are you kidding me!!! I left and found a place where I could get some sort of shelter from the rain and waited there for half an hour.
By 8:30 I went back to the embassy, and waited in front of the immigration sign again... 10 mins later the guard called me in. They checked under my shoes and did the usual "airport" check, and then they told me to follow the yellow line to the consulate and then go to window G.
There were a lot of people waiting, but I was sent straight to window G, where I was met by a really nice guy. I could see our case already had a red "approved" stamp on it...so that calmed me a lot. He asked how we had met, and then he asked me if I brought our original marriage certificate. USCIS told us to send it to them back in May, so we did. But apparently they lost it, because the NVC requested for us to send it to them as well. So we had to get a certified copy from the courthouse and send that to the NVC. I explained that to him and it was fine. Then he handed me a brown envelope and told me to write my name and address and put the stamps I brought on the envelope. Then he told me to take a seat and then I would get called up for my interview.
I waited for around 10 mins and then I was called to window D, where I was told to raise my right hand and swear to tell the truth. Then I was asked how we met, how long we had known each other, if either of us had been married before, where my wife works and the duration of her employment, and how many times we have met in person. Then she said "ok, I think we have everything we need to approve your visa and you can expect your passport back within the next 3 weeks." I told her that she was lucky she was behind a window or else I would have given her the biggest hug ever, which made her smile...lol.
Then I left and it had taken less than half an hour from when I entered the consulate.
I was really worried before I went there, but like most other people write here, it's nothing to be worried about. They were all very nice, and it was almost the easiest part of the visa case.
