I applied for my wife end of Jan 2012. Case was approved May 28. NVC completed case September 22 and Interview appointment letter was emailed on Oct 4, 2012.
My wife had her interview at Islamabad, Pakistan on Nov 20th, 2012. She arrived at the shuttle at 6:30, got her ticket & boarded the shuttle for US Embassy. After going through finger prints, she was called after 15 minutes to a window to submit her Passport, Medical Reports & was asked her mobile number and then was handed a purple token to collect her passport from American Express. She was also asked in which language she would like to take the interview, she selected Urdu. She was then told to wait. While waiting my wife witnessed several approvals and AP cases.
After 25-30 minutes later, she was called for an Interview. There was a white male CO and a young pakistani translator standing next to him.
Here are a few questions she was asked:
Who is sponsoring you?
What does your husband do?
Where does he live?
How did he get to US?
How long has he been living there?
When did you get married? Date?
How many guests were present at the wedding?
Have you done all rituals like rukhsati and valima?
Was it love or arrannge?
Who arranged it?
When did your husband come to pakistan and when he left?
How long did you two lived togather when he was in Pakistan?
Where do you live rightnow?
Have you ever been out of country?
Do you have any police record?
After the interview, the CO asked for photos of the wedding? I had provided my wife 80 wedding photos, 80 valima photos and 20 other photos of after wedding hangouts. My wife also handed him our wedding and valima invitation cards but he refused and said I only need photos.
His behavior changed after seeing the photos because my height is shorter than my wife. He scanned every single pic and asked my wife " You two don't make a perfect match, why did you marry him?" After my wife Answered him, he said "You're right, well said". He then asked my wife to wait for 15-20 minutes.
He then turned off the window speakers and started discussing with translator. They both discussed for 10 minutes and went through each and every photo twice. My wife was nervous. She wasn't sure if she should go back and sit down so she just stood there watched them.
After 10 minutes, they turned ON the speakers, handed my wife all photos, gave her all previously submitted documents and told her " MUBARAK HO, AP APNA VISA TWO WEEKS MEI COLLECT KER SAKTY HAIN" (Congratulations, you may collect your visa in two weeks)
Even though i had provided all copies of submitted documents, other relationship proofs (calls record / money transfer receipt etc) They did NOT ask for a single thing.
I was worried that they might put her on AP but they did NOT and here are few facts that i would like to share why:
1) My wife passport is clear, she has never traveled out of country
2) It was our first marriage and no kid yet
3) I am a US citizen and have been living here since 15 years
4) Completed all my education here and am working
5) Had a strong joint sponsor who makes more than requrired income
6) All documents were submitted nicely and with a cover letter explaning what is being submitted
Just because you have a joint sponsor or there's a age/color/height/religion differences doesn't make a difference. CR-1 Visa is based on relationship and as long your relationship is geniune no one can deny you. I took questions from this forum and provided my wife with all possible questions and what the answer should be. I also send her an email describing what will happen inside Embassy so that she is mentally ready and prepared well for whats coming next for her.
After the interview, she told me since i had described to her already whats going to happen from the time she board the shuttle until her final call for visa interview, she said she was relaxed and knew everything ahead of time.
Advice from my wife: Relax, and Be Honest
THE KEY TO SUCCESS IS COMPLETION OF ALL DOCUMENTS AND EVIDENCE OF RELATIONSHIP!
If you have done your homework, you will walk out with the visa in hand
