My interview was scheduled at 8am, I arrived at 7.45am and the doors had just been opened, there were a few people waiting in line at the security check point on level 10, passport sighted and checked off against the interview list, everything goes through the x-ray, its more strict than an airport check point, liquids are allowed, but the guard must see you drink from the bottle before taking it up stairs, they asked me to take any paperwork and my wallet with me, the rest stayed with the guards.
take a seat to wait for the elevator, guard requested you step up to the elevator and sends you up to level 59, second checkpoint, passport sighted, checked off against a list for the second time, he buzzes you through the door, 'take a ticket for immigrant visa and take a seat' I was the 4th waiting, I waited about 30mins before my number was called to the window.
first part was checking paperwork, and fingerprints, signing one of my documents, can't remember which one, was told all was in order and to take a seat to wait for my interview.. she even wished me luck - friendly staff!
called to the farthest booth for my interview, left hand fingerprinted, right hand raised to swear to tell the truth. First part of questions was to verify my information, questions:
Have you ever been convicted of a crime?
Have you visited the USA? how many times?
Have you had any trouble with US immigration?
What was your longest visit?
Other than NZ and Australia have you lived anywhere else longer than 6 months?
next was questions about our relationship:
Tell me about your fiance...
How did you meet? when did you meet in person? describe what that was like
What did your family think of him? What does his family think of you?
Have you ever been married? children? has your fiance been married? why did the marriage dissolve? children?
How will you support yourself? What kind of work will you do? Does your work have an office in the USA?
Will you go to Korea with your fiance?
I think that was it. and then the magical words "I believe you are in a legitimate relationship and I can approve your visa"
she explained the process with getting my passport and the envelope and what will happen at POE and then I need to marry in 90 days and will then deal with DHS to convert status.
She was formal but friendly about it and I had a really nice experience.
