We had our interview today and the I-130 was approved, but the I-485 (AOS) was not approved (pending name check). Since we only got married a few months ago this was no surprise to us.
Here is the story:
We got to the building a little early, went through the weapons screening area, and were sent upstairs to suite 300 to wait. At the entryway you leave your appointment letter in a little black tray on the right.
There were other people there with their lawyers. I got the feeling we were the only folks with no lawyer.
There was a TV on in the corner(CNN), an old copy of National Geographic to read, and LOTs of festive X-Mas decorations all over the place. I wonder if USCIS staff have heard of the separation of church and state?
At 12:30, our interviewer came and called my hubby's name. We both trooped into the interview room with a box of photos, some manila files and our heavy coats (it's cold out there!). Before we sat down he swore us in, shut the door, and welcomed us. The interviewer was very pleasant and put us at ease. After a little chit chat, we got down to business. He had hubby's thick file on his desk, and asked for our IDs (drivers licenses). During the whole interview he was reviewing the documents in the file. He also reviewed both of our passports at length (perhaps to see where we have traveled and the dates?).
In particular, he asked:
About hubby's job, what did he do, did he like it, etc.
My job (same thing)
When were we married
When did we meet, and where
He asked hubby when was the last time he entered the US
Then he asked if he had left the US since then (no)
Was hubby ever here on a J-1 visa?
Did he ever have a B-2 visa?
There were a bunch of other questions I can't remember. All in all it was a nice experience (even thought we were both a little nervous). He wrote down something about removing conditions and told us we were not approved due to pending name check. That was it. I feel lucky to live in this area -- we filed 2 months ago, had a pleasant interview with no long waits in the lobby, and were on our way.
