Review Topic: K1 Visa

SHOULD BE FULLY PREPARED AND NO NEED TO BE TOO WORRIED AND NERVOUS

When I received P3, I already got every documents listed on visajourney step by step guide chart, so I felt very confident and had no pressure at all.

However, in the week before going to Guangzhou for interview, just for curious, I googled to see the reasons why ppl, who had K1 experience before, got rejected or pending after the interview, and I thought I could try to avoid those happening on me.

Unfortunately, the more reading and searching, the more nervous i was. I found out there were sooo many details need to pay more attention to and get prepared, especially my finance's last year's tax return is not enough as required, since he was working in china and didn't pay tax for US government.
So, at the midnight of my flight date to guangzhou, I got his parent's forms and all the evidence as joint sponsor to me. They scanned hundreds of pages to me, even including their last 3 years IRS tax return books, imagine that.... :S And I got my finance's diploma, his resume, my resume too just for in case.

With all the new printed documents, I carried thousands of papers around in those two days, waiting in the crowded line everyday, 2 hrs before the informed time in front of Guangzhou consulate building.
Every process went pretty much like what i learned from website, so it was ok.
But at that time, I thought I would definitely got pending result and needed to submit back the original forms with his parent's signatures and waited for the consulate further feedback. Since we already bought the roundtrip flight tickets in Dec. for my finance, made reservations for wedding photo shooting and banquet restaurant and other plans right after P3 arriving, I felt so frustrated that I might need to delay everything and waited longer without an end.

Luckily, the VO for my case was a young woman, who was very nice and easy to talk to. She asked the routine questions like: "who sent this application for you?" "How did you two meet?" And with my explanation, she then asked: "What was his job at that time and what's yours?" "Have you met each other's family?" "What do your parents think about you will going to live in another country?" etc.

The conversation went very smoothly and her smile really calmed me down a lot. I put all the papers at the counter, ready to submit anything if she needed. But she only checked the photos i brought, and returned them to me quickly after only checking half of them.

Then she started typing on the computer quickly. Using this blank time, I said, "I bought my finance's current job stuff, do you wanna check?" And she answered "oh, It's ok, Don't worry about that". Then she turned to me and said: "well, everything looks fine, your visa is approved. You can go back and wait for our delivery."
I was sooo surprised it was short without any supplements, so I asked "Really?? I can just leave the passport here and that's it?" She said "Yeah, well, usually it will take 7-10 days."

So, that's it. I went to the interview with everything I could think about, holding the thought I wouldn't got approve at all, huge nervous and frustrated, and got a happy ending surprisingly! And 10 day's later, I received my visa package at home.

I know people will say I was way too crazy and worried, but I wanna say: How can you be sure what kind of VO you will going to deal with? What if he/she is tough and need anything that you could prepared but just didn't? Can you afford for the delay??
On that day, the VO, sat in the counter just in front of where I was seated while waiting, reviewed every document in the file carefully before he called the interviewer to come up. And he took 30-40 mins for each case. During the time I was waiting, he only finished 3 interviews, and all left with blue sheet, means pending and need to submit more.

So my suggestion is: No need to worry too much, but still should learn more and get fully prepared as much as you can.

Btw, for Chinese here, highly recommend this website for K type or CR type marriage relevant visa,
