My appointment was at 8:30 am. I stayed close to the consular and got there at 8:00 am. I joined the immigrant visa line, which is on the right and handed over my passport and the invitation letter (packet 4). I was given a ticket number. Went through security. And totally forgot that the results of my medical exam were on a CD among my documents, so I had to leave them at the door and pick them up on the way out.
Once inside, the person at the information desk asked me for my ticket. I was told to sit at the far left corner of the room, wait for my number to be called and that should be desks 23 and 16. In about 25 min I was called to window 23, where a lady collected my passport and the DHL label ('express marke' and not 'express brief' which I first have sent) and gave me back my proof of ongoing relationship. About 30 min later, I was called to window 20, where another lady (German) asked me about my birth certificate and then she explained the POE process (the brown envelope that is sent back along with my passport is sealed by the embassy and should be handed to Border Control together with my passport. Border control is going to open it at the point of entry and I should not open it myself...it's contains some forms). And then she told me that the last step would be in English with a Consular Officer at window 16 or 17. There are only 2 immigration officers dealing with immigrant visas, both male.
About 2h 15min later, I was called to window 16. The Officer asked me "How am I doing?", and then looked through my documents, handed me all my originals. And then I had to tell our story about how we met. The second question was how many times I have been to the States and for long...while he was checking my records on computer. When I explained that 2 years ago I did an exchange year in the States living together with my partner he asked me specifics about the metro system in Washington, DC. And after I answered he told me that my visa is going to be issued in couple of days and is going to take up to 10 days over the mail.
I can conclude that everyone was really nice and the Consular Officer made me feel at ease. I was out of the Consular by 11:30 am and I was acctually the last case left. I am waiting on my passport. I will be so extremely happy when the process, which by the way is going on since January, is over and we are together
