Due to the recent religious unrest toward US Embassy in Jakarta, I arrived about two and half hours prior to my scheduled interview. I was just being cautious should there be another rallies or protests. Fortunately, there was none.
I showed my appointment email letter (Packet 4) to the security guards outside and they let me in about ten minutes early. The guards scanned my bag and provided a tray for my cellphone to be kept with them as they don’t allow any electronic equipment inside the Embassy. The Embassy personnel are very friendly and helpful. They assisted my way within the compound to Windows 5 (per appointment instruction).
We have read some negative assertion from other reviews about the Indonesian lady who manages Window 5. The fact is that she has very low tolerance for people who cannot follow instructions, specifically hers. You need to make sure before you go to your interview:
1. Your forms and documents must follow the STACKING ORDER as indicated in your Packet 3 email
2. Make sure to sign your forms that needed to be signed such as I-134 and online DS-156
3. Do not signed your DS-156K and DS-230
4. Make sure you have a copy of your birth certificate
5. Bring extra pens
Failing to adhere to the steps above, you may well be the receiving end of the Window 5 lady’s wrath.
During my wait at Window 5, the lady announced for all of us to open our medical report envelope. This caused confusion among us because the medical report envelope’s seal clearly stated that only US Embassy staff is allowed to open it. None of us opened the envelopes. Via the loudspeaker and her thunderous voice, the Window 5 lady instructed us to open the medical envelope. She made it seemed like we were bunch of kindergarten kids with attention deficit disorders from her tone. The lady does have a snappy attitude and she does not like to repeat what she has said or requested.
Luckily, I had my forms and documents in the correct order. The Window 5 lady took apart my files in addition to original I-129F petition files. At this window, it’s where you signed DS-156K and DS-230. She returned all the ongoing proof of relationship. Jakarta US Embassy does not need them once your petition has been approved by USCIS. I was then directed to wait at Window 1 area. I did not make K-1 Visa payment at the Embassy because I have paid it already a week prior at Permata Bank.
At Window 1, an older American gentleman took my interview. I first must take an oath then he took my finger prints. While he went through my files and documents, he began to asking questions. He asked:
1. What is your fiancé’s name?
2. How did you meet your fiancé?
3. How long have you known each other?
4. When was the last time you saw your fiancé?
5. What does your fiancé do for a living?
6. Have you met your fiancé’s family?
7. How long has he lived in the US?
8. Have you been to the US?
9. Is this the first marriage for the both of you?
10. Does your fiancé live by himself or with others?
11. Does you fiancé live in a house or apartment?
12. So you met each other via online?
The interview questions were more than I have anticipated. The Consular Officer was very nice and he handed me the white slip to pick up my K-1 Visa.
For those of you who are going for K-1 interview at US Embassy in Jakarta, relax and don’t be nervous. Most important is to follow instruction given to you by either or you Packet 3 or Consular Officers. Good luck!!!
