The process of getting to the embassy, security checks etc. has been described in great detail before, so I am not going to rehash that again. Everything went as described.

Once settled in the waiting area, my wife was called at window 8, where an American, middle-aged woman was waiting for her. She was by herself. After the oath, she asked the following questions:

Who is calling you to US?
What does he do there?
How did you guys meet?
When did you get married?
How long has he been in US?
How did he get his immigration?

The counselor was checking the answers on a computer screen and constantly typing. She had all the paperwork that had been submitted to the NVC arranged in two piles before her.

Once my wife had answered all the questions, the counselor returned one pile of paper, which had all the originals as well as all the documentation that had been submitted as proof of our relationship. She then told my wife that she would get her passport back in a couple of weeks. My wife thanked her. It is only at that point that the counselor smiled back at her.

The interview lasted for hardly 10 mins! My wife was out of the embassy by 9 am.

While waiting, my wife observed a few other female beneficiaries getting approvals, while a male beneficiary received a green sheet (AP perhaps?). She also noticed that all the Pakistani staff at the embassy was very courteous and helpful.

The counselor never asked for some of the typical questions, such as wedding pictures (we had already submitted them to the NVC), wedding details, rukhsati and any other proof of relationship besides the questions above. I had provided my wife with ALL documentation, from the USCIS stage, right up to the NVC stage, and more. She did not even have to open up her file.

My wife expressed how the interview seemed to be a mere formality. It seemed like the counselor had her decision already made prior to the interview and were checking a few things off, just to make sure.

While there is no way to know for certain, I strongly believe that "pre-loading" the application with loads of proof of our relationship helped us a great deal and in fact made the interview a very pleasant experience. I would strongly encourage others going through the Islamabad embassy to do the same.

Hope this helps!
