The interview was on 8/23/2012. First I asked if it was a conflict of interest to speak/translate for my wife because she is not yet fluent in english. We brought an interpreter just in case but he said it was okay if I spoke for her. We were then sworn in. It went pretty smooth, the interviewer asked me, the petitioner more questions than he asked of my wife Francys. The interveiwer was all business from beginning to end which was fine, just doing his job, although we were both a little uncomfortable with his serious demeanor. Questions for my wife: What is your address? Did her family attend the wedding? Were you married before? Do you have kids? That was it for her. Questions he asked me: What is the name of your ex wife? When was your divorce final? When was your last trip to Colombia? When was your first trip to Colombia? When did you meet face to face? How did you meet your wife? When did you consider yourselves a couple? What day did you get married? Was your family there? Where was your wedding? Who owned the house where you got married? After those questions he asked to see our wedding album. He pretty much stopped looking at pictures when he got to the one of me removing my wifes garter with my teeth. Francys let out a chuckle as did I. He didn't flinch. He then asked to see evindence of shared accounts, insurance, bank, utilities, etc. Through all this there were long pauses of silence as he thumbed through paperwork, made notations on paper and typed into his computer. He asked a set of questions to Francys that he read in spanish from a print out. The questions pertained to illegal activities she might have been involved in. All the questions were yes/no questions and no more. He then aked if we had a sealed envelope from a civil surgeon. We did not. He then had us both sign a form which explained that after receiving the conditional green card we must file form I-751 three months before the green card expires (in two years). After signing that he gave us a RFE explaining that we had to get a medical supplmental from a registered civil surgeon. That was it for the interview. He didn't say that Francys was approved but after signing the first form I was led to believe that the medical supplemental was all that was needed to gain approved status. Overall it was an easy interview though a bit stuffy.
So......
That same day we went to a civil surgeon to get the medical supplemental. When I called around for civil surgeons (about 10 that day) not one of them knew what I was talking about. They all wanted to offer a full medical exam. I explained that we only needed a medical supplemental, the vaccination part only. Finally I found a civil surgeon who knew what I was talking about. Well so I thought. The civil surgeon put in the sealed envelope only page 5 of form I-693. We found this out two weeks after the interview when we recieved another RFE from US Immigration Services saying the medical supplemental was incomplete. It specifically stated in the new RFE that they wanted pages 1 and 5 of form I-693 in a sealed envelope. AND in this new RFE they also wanted a full medical exam. Huh?? Didn't make sense. So we scheduled an appointment with Immgration Services that same day we received the new RFE (September 10th). I pointed out that before, the interviewer on August 23rd requested a medical supplemental and not a full medical exam. I explained that my wifes medical was still valid because she applied for AOS within one year of her overseas medical exam. She told me my wifes medical was not valid because she applied for AOS a year after her medical exam in her country. Basically it was straightened out on the spot as they conferred and saw that all the dates checked out correctly in our favor. So all they did need was pages 1 and 5 from form I-693 and no more. So we went back to the civil surgeon to get the correct forms filled out and we sent the new sealed envelope to Immigration services. Today, September 25th we received a letter (the same letter we signed at the interview) saying that AOS was granted on September 22nd. Waiting for the green card to arrive......... :-)
