The interview takes place in the morning. We arrived 30 minutes early and were 20th in line!
We spent about 4 hours there. All our paperwork was in order so we were instructed, as was everyone else, to go to the local Mailboxes Etc. at 5pm to pick up the passport (if it is finished). All of the K1 visas were late so we had to pay 25 euros to have it shipped to our place in Milan. They give you the option of returning the next day (and every day after that..) at 5pm but there is no guarantee when it will be ready.
The visa was delivered one week (5 business days) later.
Some advice: Arrive one full hour earlier than they tell you. It will save you 2+ hours of waiting in the end. And, don't panic (like we did!) if your K1 visa is not ready for you the same day.
We were very disheartened when we found out the visa had not been processed (especially because all the other people there had been approved!). It was some comfort to discover that it was all of the K1 visas that were late, but we did not have the satisfaction of a triumphant return with the visa in hand. But we finally have it now so in the end all the trouble has paid off!
