The people at the US Embassy were wonderful. We were nervous that our paper work was not correct and would be rejected. This was all unnessary stress for the people at the embassy were wonderful. We did have some mistakes, and they helped us correct and resubmit. They were very detailed in explaining the process and whats next.
Recommendations:
1)Organize all your paperwork and visit the website to make sure you have all your documents. http://kiev.usembassy.gov/visa_iv_eng.html There were other applicants there on the day we were who had problems because they did not have all the required paper work.
2) Remember to have US$, $190 per applicant
3) Have all paper work translated, notaized and translated. We also had all paperwork apostilled. Not sure it was necessary for embassy, but will be required in the US. Then copy all the documents to give the embassy at the time of application. You need to keep originals to bring to interview as well as for records while in US.
4)Arrive early, their will be a line outside the entrance to the US Embassy, you are an American, so you are allowed to go to the head of line and wait for the green light to enter. Speak english and say "excuse me". The Ukrainians will part for you to pass. DONT WAIT IN LINE!! You maybe there a long time.
5) AGAIN visit their website, very useful of what to do and what is needed.
