Rio de Janeiro, Brazil | Review on September 1, 2012: | Visalessbob

Interview was held on July 23, 2012
We arrived in Rio on the day before the interview. We stayed at the Hotel Atlantico. Very nice hotel but a little pricey. Was in walking distance to the Embassy as there was no way we wanted to fight traffic, parking and have any hassles in getting there the day of. As an FYI, the hotel does not offer any parking. If you drive there you will need to park at an underground parking facility but is close by the hotel.
We arrived around 6:00 am the day of the interview and waited at the back entrance to the embassy. The tourist visa line was very long but the immigrant visa line had about 8 people at around 07:00 am.
One of the officials came out and checked off my wife and son's name from his checklist. After about 10 minutes we went through the door and metal detectors. Then we went to the second floor seating area. Another official then gave instructions as to filling out some paperwork in order to provide Sed-Ex (the US version of Fed Ex) the proper address and payment for visa delivery once approved. Everyone was so nice there.
After about 60 minutes we were called into room that had a window view into the seating area and then a window between us and the interviewer. All paperwork was in order other than a missing police report from the State of Alagoas. We then went back and sat down and waited about 20 minutes for the second interview. Everyone was very nice and extremely polite. The interviewer for the second interview said we needed to provide this police certificate before issuing of the visa. But she took the passports of both my wife and step-son. Then she took my wifes fingerprints and said once she has this document then the visa's will be approved.
All in all the process was very smooth and even as we brought all back up paperwork with us (with the exception of the Alagoas police certificate) they never asked to see any of it. I (petitioner) was allowed in both interviews but was not part of the interview process.
As of Aug 31, 2012 my wife has received her visa and \"DO NOT OPEN\" package along with the same for my stepson.
Again was a great experience and everyone there was professional, extremely courteous and polite.
