Review Topic: K1 Visa

My appointment was on 29 August 2012 (159 days from NOA1). I arrive at 8:15am for my 8:30am appointment where I was admitted immediately. All the others who were there for tourist visa were lining up outside in the hot weather. I bought a bottle of water with me coz I know the process takes a few hours but I the guard at the door requested me to drink or dump the bottle of water coz they don't allow any liquid to be brought in. However, one nice lady suggested me that I could keep the bottle as there's a water machine in the Embassy.

Once I got in they took my phone and I was directed to the 1st floor and waited in the room that says Immigrant Visa Unit. A document checklist was given when I entered the Embassy and we were told to gather the document in the order listed and stressed that they don't need any folder nor plastic bags. There were officers waiting at each window, 4 in total, no names was called. All you need to do was to walk to an empty window when your documents are set. So I gave my pile of documents when ready. The lady (Local Chinese, speaks Cantonese) at the window took my documents, had a look and said I had everything in good order and asked me to sit and wait.

After waited for around 30 minutes, I was called to the same window where another lady (also local Chinese, speaks Cantonese) interviewed me in a casual manner. The whole process was pretty chatty, she asked about how we met, the visits, family's reaction to our engagement...etc. She was a very nice lady, had a smile on her face all the time and I have a feeling that she was very interested in our story. She did her job well. She knows pretty well about me, my life and my fiance after a 35 minute conversation!! When I sat back down, it was almost 10am! Funny when we were in the middle of our "chat" an American consulate asked me to go to the next window to do my fingerprints.

After waited for another 30 minutes, I was called again by yet another Amercian consulate, he was in his 50s and he was wearing a white shirt with a purple bow tie! He then asked me to raised my right hand and confirmed what I submitted was honest and genuine. Then he asked me to tell him about my fiance and some other basic questions regarding our relationship. It was done quick, he also explained what I have to do after I get my K1 and my other rights, with less than 10 minutes, he said Congratulations!

Then I went downstairs to pay $25 postage and left the Embassy at 11:20am! I could have left at 11am if I hurry on filling in my address on the postage slip and not went to bathroom and not grab some water! :P

I got my visa in hand after 2 days on 31 August 2012.
