We had our interview in Bloomington today. Things started out really stressfully- we parked on the wrong side of the building, so the first two doors we went to were employee only, then we noticed the sign saying to go around to the other side, the third door we went to was also wrong...fourth try we got in!
We waited about 25 minutes, were called in, and swore to tell the truth. Then the interviewer started saying how he hadn't approved anyone all day, including a couple right before us also from New Zealand! I started feeling really nervous.
He asked for our drivers licenses, SS cards, Matt's EAD and passport. He asked some questions about how we met and what I did and what Matt did. We joked around quite a bit. He asked to see the dental insurance paperwork I had, and asked to see my passport (to see proof that I lived in NZ for a year), but we didn't have it with because it's temporarily (I hope!) misplaced. He made a comment about how if the circumstances were any different, that would seem awfully convenient...but luckily he had copies of my passport from our previous application. He flipped through the file he had on us, and decided to approve us! He didn't look at any pictures or any of the other evidence we brought along. He said the green card should arrive in 2-4 weeks, and that Matt's now a permanent resident! He said the only difference with the conditional residency is your green card expires in 2 years rather than 10, but that he's still considered a permanent resident and can apply for citizenship in 3 years.
