My husband's interview was July 16, 2012 and I attended the interview with him. We arrived at 7am for his scheduled 7:30 interview. Went through security and then to the waiting room. After about an hour he was called to bring his documents to a window just outside the waiting room where he presented all of the documents including his passport, and his I-864. He was asked his phone number and email address and was told to be seated again. After about another hour we were called to a window and the CO asked if I was the wife, he asked me to sit back down. He then swore my husband in and began the interview. My husband was asked just a few general questions ie: when we were married, how many children I had, when did I get divorced from my 1st husband, how many times I had been to Jordan and what we have in common? His interview lasted about 5 or 6 minutes. Then my husband was told to be seated and the CO asked me to the window. He started with the same questions he asked my husband, plus a few more. He asked me several times if I had ever petitioned for my husband before(no I hadn't), when I answered no he asked if I had ever petitioned for anyone else before. When I told him I had never petitioned for anyone at any point, he kept asking me over and over and over if I was sure(I think I would know if I had!) The CO then asked my husband to the window again and informed him that he was sorry that the visa could not be issued that day, that his case was being put into mandatory administrative processing. He took my husband's fingerprints and asked me to approach the window again, he told me the same thing, no visa today. He gave us a 221g that stated my husband was in mandatory AP. The CO told us that there was nothing to worry about, the visa was approved pending the name checks. We were told to check the AP site starting in 2 weeks for updates and that we would not be contacted when AP is over, it was our responsibility to check the site and as soon as AP was over and the visa was ready, the site would tell him to send his passport. After a few minutes we were called by another officer who took down some further information, he asked for my husband's brother's and sister's names and the phone number for his employer. That was the end of it. We were not asked for any supporting evidence or pictures at any point during the interview. I am rating the overall experience a 4.
The advice I have for everyone no matter the country; Be confident,show respect to everyone at the consulate, speak clearly and don't be afraid to smile. They are not your enemy and respect goes a long way. Get to the consulate on time and dress appropriately, business casual... no jeans, shorts, flip flops sneakers, tank tops or short skirts and dresses. Never hesitate to ask for advice and guidance from the trustworthy and knowledgeable members on this site, and NEVER underestimate the consular phase of your journey. The CO has 100% power over the continuation of your journey, there is NEVER a disadvantage of the petitioner being at the interview(if your consulate rules allow),even if the CO doesn't interview you as the petitioner, be there to offer moral support for your spouse, you will never regret it. And most importantly always be 100% honest with your answers. I did not discover this site until after my husband's petition was approved, luckily we did not receive any RFE's, but I relied upon support from this site and it's members from the NVC stage forward. We would not have been able to navigate the remainder of our journey without advice, in private and in public from many people here. Good luck to everyone.
My husband's visa was issued September 27, 2012, AP lasted for about 9 weeks, he arrived in the US October 12, 2012.
