Hubby arrived at the embassy around 6:45 am on June 4. He was asked for his interview letter at the door and then entered. He took a number and was seated. His number was called fairly quickly and he went to the window where an Egyptian woman spoke to him. She gave him back some docs that were no longer needed in our case file and extra passport photos. He asked her for the originals back and she said that the consul would give them back to him. She took 2 new passport photos from him, his passport, medical envelope, and interview letter. He then told her that the police certificate that she had was expired and that he had a new one. She told him that they consider them valid for a year, but she said she’d give him back the old one and she took the newer one just in case. Then she told him to go pay the DHL fee (75 LE) and wait for the consul to call him up for the interview. He asked if any other docs were needed from him and she said no.
The consul called him up very soon after. He said she was a young, blonde-haired woman and was very kind to him. She first gave him back all his original documents and then took his DHL receipt. Then she started asking him questions in “broken Arabic” which surprised him (in a good way since I told him there’d be a translator) but it was good enough that he could understand from her clearly. She asked how we met. He told her through family to which she asked if we were cousins. He told her no. Then she asked him if he spoke English, then asked if we spoke Arabic together. Then she asked if I was Egyptian, to which he said “No… but her father is.” So she laughed. Then she asked where “the madam” was (LOL). He told her: “in America”. She asked when the last time he saw me was. He told her last September. She asked where I live and if I was born in Egypt or America. She asked if we had any children. He said no. She took his fingerprints as they talked.
She told him that that was all and that she was approving our case but that the visa wasn’t ready and that our case had to go through AP. He asked if she needed anything else from him. She said no. She gave him back his passport and said to send it in via DHL when AP is over and that they would also send him his passport back with the visa thru DHL. She gave him a paper that said we were in AP and had our case number and the IV AP status website on it for tracking our case. She told him to start checking after 3 days. He asked how long this AP was and she said that it could be anywhere from 3 days to a month usually.
He said that the interview was quick and she was really kind to him. He had so much evidence with him (photos, emails, calls, chats, etc.) but she didn’t ask to see anything. I kinda wish he had offered at least cuz I spent so much time compiling it all… but oh well… She also didn’t ask for my 2011 tax info (I submitted up to 2010 for the NVC AOS package), so I found that strange as well o_O at some point he signed the DS-230 form in front of her…
Overall, he said he had a very short wait and he felt the consul was very cordial to him. A good experience overall…
Today is our 6 week mark since the interview and no info to be had still from DOS or the embassy… the wait continues…
