Our interview was scheduled for 1:00pm at our local USCIS office in Fairfax, VA. We arrived at 12:50 then got through security and went to the 2nd floor where we checked in with the receptionist there. She stamped our interview letter and told us to find a seat. About 10 minutes later Jenni's name was called and we both walked in to an office with a lady officer that looked very serious and didn't smile. First she swore us in to tell the truth, then she asked for our passports and original birth certificates which we provided. She asked if we brought our lawyer which we didn't so we had to sign an affidavit so that we could continue without him being there. Then she asked for our marriage certificate and my divorce certificate. We were well prepared thanks to VisaJourney!
The interview started with a series of questions directed at me to probe how much I knew about my wife, her family, her job etc. Then she asked similar questions to my wife to see how well she knew... read complete review

My wife, Ann, and stepson, Daine, had their adjustment of status (AOS) interviews at the Washington DC Field Office, in Fairfax, Virginia, on November 16th. After making it through security, we handed the appointment letters to the receptionist in the waiting area. We waited about an hour past the interview time. We were taken to a back office by a very pleasant and engaging adjudicating officer.
She opened our files and inquired with us regarding some missing documents ... she was sure that they had been in the file at one point, but had gone walkabout. Luckily, we had copies of everything and were able to supply replacements.
She asked us several questions: when did you meet, where did you meet, when was your first visit, when and where were you engaged, when and where were you married, and how many people attended the wedding. She did not ask for current photos, but rather looked through photos from the file ... she especially liked ... read complete review

We waited for about 2 hours past our scheduled appointment time, but were finally called in. Officer did not seem terribly interested in supplemental materials we had brought, other than a few bills/contracts we had signed. I had not brought a few things that would have been helpful (receipts from engagement and wedding rings, recipts/contracts from ceremony and reception venue), but he was not too put off by that.
After reviewing submitted answers to questions and forms (esp. on the I-485, like the questions about planning to overthrow the government, etc), he told us were going to be approved, and that we'll need to file for ROC within 90 days of the expiration of the conditional GC.
Overall, it was a lot easier than we expected, and went very well. Waiting two hours was not fun, though, especially when all of the other people that showed up at the same time as us were in/out in under an hour.
