Review Topic: Adjustment of Status

I had an afternoon interview. We arrived half an hour before the appointment. We left pretty much everything in the car except paperwork. So, we didn't have to worry about our cellphones or other items. They do check them at the door. They also check your ID and interview notice.

After going through the security we went up to the third floor. In the waiting area there were about 15-20 other couples already waiting. We gave our interview notice to the receptionist and sat. About 10 minutes later I was called by receptionist. I was fingerprinted at the reception (right and left index fingers) and have my picture taken.

We waited about 15 minutes. A gentleman came and invited us to interview room. He was a pleasant person. He checked our ID's. He requested the copy of our lease, utility bills, life insurance cards, and bank statements. First he asked some of the questions from the 485 form, such as if I ever was prosecuted, if I ever lied for immigration bene... read complete review

Review Topic: Adjustment of Status

My husband and I went for our aos interview today, 26 Sept 2008, at USCIS San Francisco. We got approved, thank God. The whole process was took us about 45mins to 1 hr. As others have stressed out, no cellphone or camera is allowed inside the USCIS office.

After going thru two security checks on the ground floor, one outside the building and one metal screening after entering the building, we were told to go to the 6th floor. Upon exiting the elevator, we saw the waiting area, with a small sign in front. The check in desk is to the right.

After giving the appointment letter at the reception area, we were asked to take a seat and wait for our name to be called. After about 10mins I got called to have my index fingers scanned and my picture taken. We were then asked to take a seat again and wait for our name to be called. After about 30mins or so, a lady officer called our name and directed us to her office. She started the interview by introducin... read complete review

USCIS officer was an amiable person. He is a Filipino-American. He asked the husband more questions. We didn't come with our lawyer. Just appeared for the interview with our documents. Green card was approved right after the interview. USCIS officer did not give us a hard time at all.

Went well -- just don't bring your cell phone -- they'll make you either take it back to your car or across the street to a camera shop that will babysit your phone for $3.

Note: As mentioned by other posters, cell phones with cameras are not permitted in the building. On a previous visit, the security guard told us that we could check our phones at the coffee shop across the street from the Washington St entrance for about $2 or $3.

We arrived about 40 minutes early for our appointment on June 22, and went up to the AOS unit on the 3rd floor. Signed in, and waited about 45 minutes before we were called in by the interviewer.

The interviewer escorted us to an office/interview room, swore us in, and checked passports/IDs. Our complete file (about 1.5 inches thick!) was already open on the desk, and I could see that there were documents in there that looked like they went all the way back to the original 129F that I had submitted.

I had brought all the requested documentation (much of it copies of documentation submitted earlier with other applications/petitions), but the interviewer said that none of it was real... read complete review
