My husband (USC) and I (German, going from F-1 to PR) had our initial interview today. It was scheduled for 8.30 am. We got to the office already around 7.40 (because the shuttle from the hotel where we were staying left at 7.30). We waited until 7.45 (because we didn't want to be more than 45 minutes early) and then entered the building and went through the security check. There was something in my purse that showed up weirdly on the scanner or something, so that took a couple of minutes to figure out, but all-in-all standard and polite security procedures.
We went upstairs, put our I-797C into their mail-slot and sat down in the waiting area.
We were called in around 8.45 or 8.50. The officer started out very business-like (neither super friendly nor super unfriendly, which I assume is normal). He asked us to stand up and raise our right hand and vow to tell the truth.

Very easy. 9am appt f/naturalization interview (based on 5yr residency). Arrived at 8:30, about 10 people in waiting area (mainly for biometrics). Called f/interview at 9:20. Female officer, friendlier than I expected. Promised to tell the truth. Passed history/reading/writing tests with no problem. She asked questions about info on application. Only docs she looked at were greencard, drivers license, current passport. Nothing else! Application recommended for approval. On my way home at 9:30.

It was short and sweet. We brought all the documents that were requested on the appointment letter and had no problems. My husband and I were interviewed together. The guy asked me where I live, he reviewed my husband's information that was on the I-485 (parent's names, security questions- military, terrorism, etc.), asked me where I work. We gave him most of the documents that we brought along. He didn't seems too interested at first, but once we got the docs out, and he started looking, he kept most of it for the file. He didn't take my current work contract/letter from employer. Overall, a positive experience with no problems.
