I had my permanent residency interview on Feb 10, 2016. I am moving through and AOS, was a student on an F1, then married an American. I am a Canadian. We arrived early...sat in a large room. Cell phones are allowed as long as you aren't talking. Everyone was pleasant and helpful. We got called in about 30 minutes after our scheduled time. The officer went over every single page of our file, looked at every picture, asked lots of questions. But she was friendly and not intimidating. At the end she said, well I think I can approve the file, but didn't on the spot. She said she hasn't approved it yet. She said it will take her a day or two. She didn't ask anything that wasn't on the application. Overall a good experience but wish I would have gotten that stamp in my passport on the spot!

Overall we had an excellent experience at the Detroit office. All of the staff were courteous and professional. Our interview was scheduled for 1:35pm. We arrived shortly after 1pm and ended up waiting (in a large waiting room) around 1-and-a-half hours before they called my wife's name. You're not allowed to bring food or drinks into the building, but they do have vending machines inside (near the bathrooms) after you go through security. The agent who interviewed us was very pleasant and professional. The interview lasted around 45 minutes. The agent asked to see our wedding photos, and asked a lot of questions to verify information in our application. She was very thorough, but in general the interview felt more like a conversation than an interrogation. We were finished and on our way home by 3:15pm.
