Other applicants who were waiting to be interviewed were amazed that Nguyet hadn't hired an attorney. They had their doubts about the efficacy of using a website for such an important and complicated process. Typical attorney fee was $700.
The interview was conducted in English, as per Nguyet's preference. The interviewing officer was polite and asked detailed questions, with a few simple trick questions thrown in, like "Is your husband . . . ?" But Nguyet found herself feeling comfortable after a few minutes and all went well.
The other applicants were surprised when Nguyet came out smiling.

The overall experience was pleasant. We got to the US Consulate at 6:30am for a 8am appointment, and the line to go through the first door didn't start until 7. Our interview didn't happen until close to 9:30 and it was only a couple minutes for us - we were out the door at 9:30. My husband was there with me and the CO was made aware of that. He told my husband that they would let him know if they wanted to ask him some questions, but that ended up not happening. Only a couple of basic questions for me like how and when we first met, did he propose, how we communicated when apart, where we both currently work, and last question was if we plan to move back to the U.S. (my husband has been living in VN with me for the last 1.5 years). The CO then said there was nothing else and that my visa is approved. We weren't asked to show any of the evidence, paperwork or photos, etc. that we brought with us, none at all, so that was a bit (pleasantly) surprising for us.
It's probabl... read complete review

The actual interview process for us was short. The woman that talked my wife was very nice. My wife did her interview mostly in English, but there was a few words that the translator had to translate. The CO asked my wife about what I do, when did she first talked to me, and when did I meet her in person.
The CO then called me up to the window and asked me how did I meet her and when did I first meet her person. Then the CO ask me what do I find special about my wife and she also ask the same question to my wife.
Next, the CO told me to show her a few pictures that were meaningful in our relationship and not to show her pictures from the wedding. We had well over 200 pictures, but I only showed 5 pictures to her.
Before my wife was called to the window for the interview, I saw the pink slip and I know that we had did good in preparing our paperwork.
All in all, the most difficult process for us, like everyone said, was the wai... read complete review

Our interview date was a long time coming, but we finally had it yesterday and everything went pretty smoothly. Our interview time was set for 9:30 and we arrived at the consulate around 7:30. Entry was a little convoluted, but it worked out nicely. Rather than waiting in line on the street, where one might be subject to the vagaries of street traffic or weather we waited in an entry hall, this was divided broadly into two lines; one for immigrant applicants and one for visitors. In spite of the odd USCIS designation the K1 is an immigrant visa for the consulate's purposes, so we stood in line for perhaps five minutes before being ushered back out of the consulate and into the immigration section proper.
Like virtually everything else in southern Vietnam this was half in doors and half out, somewhat more pavilion than building in the western sense. You are first directed into line for the biometrics. I was waiting in line with Mai Hong at first, but a consular employee d... read complete review

It was a friendly and easy interview for us. We had over 1000+ pictures, 2000+ pages of chat logs, hotel receipts, phone logs, postal letters and gift receipts. We also prepared timeline (very important) and 10 years of residency. The CO mostly read our timeline and didn't even look at other evidences we brought with us. My recommendation to everyone is be over prepared and have your timeline ready.
