My Interview
January 14th 2008.
I arrived at Waterloo station at 08:15am and jumped in a cab to Grosvenor Square (this cost just under £10 but well worth it to avoid the tubes at that time in the morning). I arrived at the Embassy at 08:30am. My Interview was at 09:30am so as I was early, my friend and I decided to check out the area. Directly opposite the entrance area to the Embassy is a small street and we found a ‘Starbucks’ a couple of blocks down. After using their loo! , I arranged to meet her there after I finished and then made my way back to the Embassy.
I joined the queue and went through a security post, who asked for my letter. She asked if I had any electronics or metal items, I had my mobile phone and she asked me to switch it off and gave me a plastic bag to put it in. It was 08:45am and there were only 2 lines, one for 08:30 and one for 09:00. She told me to join the 09:00 line. I went into a portacabin, they put my bags (handbag and a bag w... read complete review

Review Topic: IR-1/CR-1 Visa

We applied for an IR1/CR1 Visa by DCF. My wife is the USC and I am a UKC. My interview was on Jan 4th 2008, scheduled at 8am.

We arrived a little before 7.30am, where there were only 4 people ahead of us in the queue. After a short wait, an embassy official came to the front of the queue and cheerfully said good morning and called the first person forward. Bearing in mind how cold, how early and how soon after new year it was, I was impressed by the cheer! She looked at mine and my wifes passports and the appt letter and told us which line to go down. We were immediately called into the security hut, where they scanned our bags. Again they were very cheery. We then walked in through the main doors and showed our letter to the reception desk. I was given a ticket with the number 5001 on it and was told to look out for the number on the display. We went in and took a seat. After about 20min, we were called to a window, where again we were greeted by anot... read complete review

Everything went very smoothly. Stephen arrived 30 minutes prior to his interview time. He didn't believe me when I told him he could check his mobile phone at the gate BEFORE he went inside, so he rented one of those "hold your luggage" places and left his phone there. But sure enough, they DO allow you to check your phone in. He did say there was a long line though and he was glad he'd not brought it.
All in all, things went quickly. They check his information at station one and station 2. Then when he was called to the window for his interview, he said the guy didn't hardly even look at him, he was busily stamping all of Stephen's forms during the "interview". Asked him how long we'd known each other where we met and why he was moving here instead of me moving over there. Then he was given a quick "you're approved, expect your visa in 4 -9 days" (in reality his interview was on Tuesday and his visa was delivered to his house in Northern Ireland on Friday...so very quick there.... read complete review

The interview itself was quick and painless. The consular officer literally asked me two questions - where we me? and why move to the US? - and it was over. I'd say 2-3 minutes in all. The aside, however, there are lengthy waits as you first queue to enter the building, wait to file your documents, wait for your interview, and then queue to file with sms. I'd say from start to finish I was there for 4hours. With only a 3 minute interview. But, hey: it's done now.
