Pretty smooth and seamless.. only about three questions during the interview.

The medical examination took place the same day as the interview. I had to be at the doctor's office at 8am -- it was literally a 5 minute walk away from the US Embassy which was helpful. I fainted (as usual) after the blood test, but the nurse was very kind and she arranged a chair for me outside so I could recover prior to the examination itself. The TB x-ray was fine -- just your bog-standard x-ray, nothing special. However, the examination was possibly one of the most demeaning things that I've ever encountered -- having a strange male doctor performing a thorough, intimate, examination was absolutely vile. Why the hell they don't have a female doctor on staff for the women is beyond me. I am still angry that I was subjected to this.
The "interview" at the US Embassy took about 5 minutes -- they didn't even want to see the affidavit of support (evidently if you're both MIT graduates then you should have no problems supporting yourself, according to the official who w... read complete review

Well, after a couple of visits to the Embassy in previous years for J1 visas, i knew where the place was and what to expect...just about! My interview was at 830am and the lines outside were so small that i only waited outside for about 40 minutes (on both previous occassions i had to wait 2 hours, before i even got inside!). So then got in and took a seat whilst trying not to fall asleep after only 2 hours sleep the night before. Had the pre-interview paper collection then the interview with a nice american guy who was training a new girl i guessed. Got through the standard questions like where did u meet, why america and not UK, and that was that, went to pay the courier and went on my way home!
Absolutley no need to be nervous but, of course, being human nervous is a very natural feeling!

1st of all.... I'M APPROVED!
Now the review.......
Arrived at Victoria Station 7am. Tube to Bond St. I was inline outside the embassy at 7:20am. Thank God it was a beautiful British day... RAINY! Luckily i was one of the first few in line. A security lady checked my interview letter and told me to go down the 8am line. At the end of this line, there was a guy who checked my passport and made sure it matched with what he had in his little file. Then i went through a security hut and put my bag through an airport style scanner machine thingy, handed in my phone, and continued round the corner and went into the embassy.
Once inside the main doors, the receptionist lady gave me the magic ticket! (5001.. all immigrants are in the 5000's), non-immigrants are 1000's) I went up the stairs into the waiting room.
I sat down and the wait began (about 7:45).

Here was our day... we got to the embassy about 8.35 for our 9am appointment. There are signs that ask for you to get your appointment letter and passports ready, and also to get any electronic stuff ready to show. The first lady I saw asked for the letter and passports, gave me a clear bag for my mobile to go in, told me to put my watch in my bag and asked me to wait in the 9am queue. There were still a few people in the 8.30 lane to go in, and about 10 people before me in our lane, although I noticed a lot of people were in groups, not all individual applicants. Just before we got to the security check (a white portacabin), another person wanted to see the letter and the passports again, and checked us off a list. In security, I had to hand over my phone and they gave me a number to reclaim it after the interview had finished. My bag was placed through an x-ray machine and we went through the scanner.
