SUMMARY:

In: 8.36am
Out: 11.30am
Questions asked during interview:
*How long have we been engaged?
*How long have we known each other?
*How did we meet?

I can't believe I am writing this, but my experience at the Embassy was exemplary from beginning to end.

I showed up at around 8.30ish (couldn't sleep) and left my iPhone at Goulds (£3 to store any electronics - great service). I then went to the Embassy and asked when I could come in given my interview was at 9.30 - they said to come in straight away (figured I may as well as I'd only end up sat somewhere else spending!!). Had my passport and letter checked, then went through the bag check and metal detectors - forgot I had my headphones in my bag, so they had to go, grr. Then he saw something 'battery shaped' which turned out to be my epipens, made me take sips of my water bottles and then in I went.

I got my I number and was sat waiting f... read complete review

London US Embassy, May 7th 2010

Unlike most people I’m sure. I decided to go down to London and home in the same day rather than heading down and staying in a hotel the night before my interview, firstly because my interview time was 10am rather than stupid early, and secondly because as it happens the airline ticket prices were the same at BA as they were with EasyJet for the first time in history. Easyjet could have got me into Luton about 20mins later than my interview tag on train/tube times and it’s not an option, or the evening before, while BA would get me there about 1hr 40mins early Leaving plenty of time to get to the embassy, (Also BA serves Breakfast on the way down)

I stayed at my brothers the night before my interview so I could get to the airport quicker than if I’d stayed at home, got up at 4:45am, as he had to be at work around 5:30, so he dropped me off at Aberdeen airport (ABZ) around 5:10, the plane... read complete review

My interview was smooth, if somewhat boring. Nothing of note happened except for waiting 4 hours to talk to 2 people for less than 15 minutes.

I arrived in London on Tuesday and stayed at the King's Cross Royal Scot Travel Lodge. This is about a 5 minute walk from the tube and it was cheap. The room was fine, nothing great or awful about it but the decor was tired in general. However, this is a recent aquisition so things might improve.

Anyway, on Tuesday I went to Gould's Pharmacy to get my photos and to suss out the lie of the land. The embassy is on your right looking down towards the park from the pharmacy - I discovered this after I walked around the entire square (by this time it was pouring rain). The state flags confused me because the only US flag I saw was on top of the building. So, now I knew where to go. I'm glad that I did this because otherwise I would have been very confused!

On Wednesday I went to Euston just after 7am to c... read complete review

I stayed in Lincoln House, which is about a half mile from the American embassy in London. It's a three star hotel with various room options and is pretty good on the cheap. The web address for it can be found here: http://www.lincoln-house-hotel.co.uk/ Because it's located so near the embassy, you can get to where you need to be fairly quickly, and you'll also be able to leave your electronics at Gould's Pharmacy or with the people at the hotel (or in your room if you like).

Because my interview was rescheduled to an earlier date (originally it was on June 8th, but we had to readjust it to June 1st) I was nervous there would be a problem getting into the embassy. When you start to queue, there are two people who will check if you have an interview. They know if you are coming, and will write on your sheet to tell the rest of the people that it's been rescheduled.

Next, you'll head through security, which... read complete review
