March 15, 2011 Mila and I arrived at the Consulate in Kiev about 8:45 for our 9:00 appointment We went to one of the guards who told us to wait with the other K-1 couple who were already just outside the door. The were a guy from Alabama, and his girl was from Kiev. At 9:00 we all headed inside and went through security (We has locked our cell phones and other belongings in a locker facility about 20 feet from the consulate, I'm not sure why we chose them as opposed to just giving our stuff to the security desk inside, but Mila seemed to think our stuff would be safest there)
We sat down for about 5 minutes and they called Mila up so they could get her paperwork, and I went along. They took what they needed and gave her back the rest. Overall not bad. It was too long between submitting paperwork to a clerk and actual interview with a consul. We've waited more than 2 hours.

We were fully prepared - or actually overly prepared since my fiancee is Ukrainian and a lawyer. She brought every document they could ever possibly want to see. The process was smooth. Our only complaints were the long time sitting and waiting in a small room with no coffee for a jet lagged American! They asked the same type of questions others reported to verify the relationship: has he met your parents, etc. We picked up the visa at the Fedex office in Kiev 3 days later.
