The consulate called by phone to inform me that they had received the visa petition. Setting up an appointment was a (mostly) painless process which I completed online. The experience at the actual appointment was also good. Although I spent a few hours waiting inside the consulate, admission to the building was timely. The people working in the waiting area were polite locals. I was asked to submit my documents, and most of my time waiting was waiting for a review of my documents. The person who gave final approval was an American who spoke Russian well, but after reviewing the documents he didn't have any follow-up questions, which was a pleasant surprise. Overall, it was a positive experience that went better than expected.

We got approved! I think it took my fiance about an hour and a half from entering the embassy to leaving it. She went in gave her paperwork to the person at the window, they took her finger prints and she sat down and waited. They called her name up and she did the finger prints again after that he swore her in by making her read a piece of paper, by the way he was speaking Ukrainian to her. He asked "How many times did he visit you?" She said once since we have been dating (I grew up in UA so i obviously been there a lot). That was it, he said your visa is approved and you can expect it in 5 day. He did not ask for any documentation or anything else at all.

The first interviewer was Ukrainian and worked with her to clean up the extra paperwork that was sent. They then discussed her two year residency requirement, and the interviewer indicated her work records in Ukraine were adequate documentation.
She then saw the consul, who asked her one question, and she was approved. She should receive her packet within a few days.

My fiancee's interview was a breeze. I spoke with her soon after the interview and the whole process took about 1.5 hours from arrival till departure. Nothing out of the ordinary occurred. She arrived with her mother. Her mother kept her cell phone so she did not have to remove it. She had to walk through a metal detector. She received a number for the waiting area and had to wait 45 mins - 1 hour. Once called, and assistant took her paperwork and evidence of continued relationship. Soon after, she was called to the window to have the interview with the consular officer. She had to read a pledge in either Ukrainian, Russian, or English. She chose English. He asked how we met, when I was there last, what is my profession, Have I met her family, and has she met mine. He complimented her on her English speaking skills and told her congratulations on the approved Visa!!!
