We moved our interview date to May 6 - two weeks later - due to travel plans we had during the initial appointment date; this wasn't a problem at all.
The interview was very thorough, perhaps because my wife is Thai and not Spanish and this is not routine for the Madrid consulate. We were asked about 10 minutes of questions about how we met, how we initially kept in touch before marriage, etc. The Consular official was very nice and very professional at all times. We were impressed by her.
Overall a positive experience.

While she was on line, security asked to see her interview email, and her passport. They allowed her in at 6:45, had her check her phone at security, and then she went up to a desk and the clerk arranged all of her papers. The clerk took all her papers and gave my wife a small ticket to pay the $325 fee and asked her to come back after payment was made. After 15 minutes, she was called inside and saw the other people in line ahead of her in the same room. After the other 2 people were called to window #2, my wife was called in to window #2. There she was interviewed by a female Thai officer. My wife was asked:
