On November 10, 2015, my husband, myself (the petitioner) and three children had a 1 p.m. appointment. Before entering the embassy security area there is someone that checks your name off a list, verifying your appointment. After entering the first door, we went through security screening. If there is anything you can’t take inside you leave it in a plastic container and they give you a number that you use to retrieve your items. You then exit the security area and there’s a catwalk leading to another building where the interviews take place.
Once you enter the second building, you are given a number. We were given number 605. The numbers are called over the PA system and you’re told which window to go to (ex. 605 to window 4). When our number was called, all five of us went to the window. The lady intaking the documents told us the children could have a seat because she didn’t want to make them nervous. (We brought books for them to keep them entertained.) She took my... read complete review

I had my interview on the 29th September 2015.
I got to consulate 30 minutes before my scheduled time at 13h00. I hanged around in Sandton City Mall for a few hours because I had flown in from Cape Town that day. I used the time to study the mall. I had to take visa pictures there and find the time to ask which exit to take to the Embassy. I didn't know Johannesburg.
When I arrived, there was a long que. We sat there till they were ready to let us in. One by one. The weather was pretty gruesome. It gets really hot. Make sure your cell is off and you'll then hand it in at the front desk before walking through their machine. Follow the yellow footprints to the next entrance where the interviews take place. The staff sitting at the entrance will issue you a ticket with a number. Once the number is called, they announce the booth you go to. My nerves were kinda working. I've already had two B2 denials. Once they finally called my number, I reached a South African lad... read complete review

I got to the consulate at around 12:30pm on 15 September 2015. There were approximately 8 people in front of me. We all waited in line until 13:05pm. You then proceed in one by one and are requested to leave all electronics with security and proceed through a scanner. Go through the door and follow the yellow footprints.
Once inside I waited about 20 minutes to go up to the first counter. The South African lady behind the counter asked me for my documents one by one.
Unabridged Birth Certificate
Police Clearance
Passport
2 USA Visa Photos
Evidence of Financial Support (Tax returns and Letter of Current Employment)
Divorce Decree(if applicable- for either you or your fiance or both)
Relationship Evidence (Photos, Skype Conversations, Emails, FB posts, travel documentation for both of you)
I got asked a few questions, they were very general. What is you final address in America going to be? Have you tr... read complete review

My fiance had his K1 visa interview in Johannesburg on July 28.
He arrived at the consulate at 10:30 am, because he flew in from Cape Town the night before and had nothing better to do! Also had to catch his flight home that afternoon so he wanted it to go quickly.
He was obviously first in line. They had no problem with him waiting outside that whole time. Bring food with you if you get there that early...though they won't let you take it inside with you.
At 1 pm, they start letting people inside.
-Go through security like at an airport
-Leave your laptop/big stuff at home. It takes longer.
-They keep your phone when you go through security and you pick it up when you leave.
Then you follow the footsteps on the ground into the consulate. Go to the first counter and get a number. Because he was first, he went straight to the next counter and a South African lady asked for all his documents. He handed over... read complete review

Super easy interview, was asked just the basic questions that one sees here on VJ. One thing, I arrived for my 1pm interview at 11am, was told by security that you are not allowed to wait there, but have to wait at the mall or anywhere else but not at the consulate. Only allowed to start queueing up at 12:30. So if you get there early, dont waste your time by trying to wait there.
