Review Topic: Direct Consular Filing

The interview was a breeze. We were scheduled for 8:45 am and we arrived around 8:35 at the Embassy gate. There were about 5 people ahead of us in line and we were inside the Embassy complex in less than 5 minutes. We went to the Visa section and one of the girls working there (they call them promotoras) took our interview letter and told us to have a seat that we would be called by name. We sat at the Immigrant Visa section which is located towards the back of the room with about another 20 people awaiting interviews. Within 5 or 10 minutes of arrival we were called in to window #14 to submit my wife's passport, passport photos, DS-230 Application and payment of $400 fee. We were told to have a seat once again. My wife and I made bets regarding what window we were going to be called into next, I was betting on window number #10 and my wife was betting on window #12. It took about another 20 to 30 minutes and I saw the lady behind window #10 working on my wife's documents. I told my wi... read complete review

I got there at 8am. They sent me to window 14 where I gave the forms (D156, D156K and the other form enclosed in the package). Then I sat down for one hour waiting and waiting and very nervous but I was trying to be calm. I was a little down since I saw some couples waiting for their turn and I was alone!! . After one long hour, I was called to window 10. This nice lady asked me for my birth certificate,my medical exam, my fiance's tax returns and his affidavit of support. She started telling me about her new boyfriend and how she met him (online) and i told her that we met online through a website called Eharmony, a different website to find the love of your life. She asked me how different it was so I told her the whole story (I had all the stages we went through before we actually talked to easchother). She asked me for pictures but I had a photo album and it couldnt get through the window so she said: that's ok, your fiance ... read complete review

Our appointment was at 9am but we decided to arrive earlier to see if we could get in.

I noticed that the pictures that we'd gotten were the wrong size, but across the street you can get the 2" x 2" you need.

We got the pictures, took out the appointment letter and went in. Once inside the room, we were called to the first window (10 I think) and handed Cesar's passport and photos. Then we waited for 45 before we were called to another window. The Peruvian lady started asking us questions in Spanish.

Do we have children?
How did we meet?

Then she became rude and asked for Cesar's birth certificate. For some reason or another Cesar didn't get a birth certificate until 1994 (he was born in 1981). She kept asking if his parents were married, and told him that if his parents were married then they would have gotten the birth certificate right away. Antipatica, really. Cesar held his tongue. We handed the medical envelope, ... read complete review

My fiancée’s interview went very quickly with no problems. I will try to give as much detail as I can remember. Our interview was scheduled for 8:45 on 8/29/2008. We were staying at a hotel in Miraflores and left the hotel at 7:45. Allow 30 minutes for traffic in the morning if you are staying in Miraflores. We arrived at the embassy at 8:15. There was a queue of people in line in front of the embassy, about 5 people in front of us. A man was talking to each person in the line to determine each persons reason for being at the embassy. Within a few minutes we entered the first security room, gave our cell phones to security and received a card with a number for retrieving the cell phones later. No electronics of any kind are allowed inside the embassy. In the first security booth we passed through a metal detector. The first security booth is a small room just for the security check, with no more than 10 feet from the entrance to the exit door. When you exit the security ... read complete review
