I went through the DCF process with my Dutch wife last fall and just wanted to say what a fast and smooth process it was. The embassy in Amsterdam is very helpful - I highly reccomend you call them with any questions you might have anytime during the process. I had been living in NL for almost five years. That entire time I was dealing with the IND, trying to get a residence permit, and was never succesful in that. I was worried this would cause a problem regarding DCF filing, but the people at the embassy assured me that as long as I had some kind of paper from the Dutch immigration dept saying that I was going through the process, then they'd accept my DCF paperwork, which they did. My wife and I have now been living happily and legally in the US for about five months now.

Are there any one out here who is not a Dutch citizen but a long term resident and applied for K-1 visa? I would love to hear your experience with obtaining the K-1 visa. My fiance and I are about to start with the paper work and I have been living amsterdam for the last 10 years ( on and off ) and am not a Dutch citizen yet but have permenant residency papers.
Any help would be appreciated

I was then told to go wait in line for counter number 5, where I waited for quite a while. I talked to a few of the other people there and it seemed like the majority was going to move to California as well.
When I got called to the counter the guy (he spoke Dutch!) checked my passport and took my fingerprints. He then went through the checklist (passport, photos, birth certificate, forms, evidence, stamps etc), and was very impressed that it all was complete and in duplicate. He put everything in a binder and gave me a big brown envelope which contained my x-ray and vaccination records. He explained that I would have to keep it with me on the plane along with all the other paperwork and evidence. He then told me to go to the waiting area until my name would be called.
After 10 minutes or so my name was called, and I was greeted by an American ... read complete review

The interview itself was painless. Preparing everything and picking up the visa was painful.
Preparing documents was tedious because I've lived in the UK and Hong Kong as well, and I had to apply for certificates of no criminal records from countries. This was straigtforward for the UK (although expensive) and almost impossible for Hong Kong because a) it required me to get official fingerprinting done in Holland, which would normally be impossible but luckily a local police station did it for me (and I had to go back again because HK complained my fingerprints were not in English...) and b) the US Consulate provided me with outdated information rendering my application to be delayed.
This resulted in me missing the 1 document from HK for my scheduled interview at the Consulate, yet when I called to state that they couldn't possibly have received the HK police record yet, I was still told to come for the interview.
And yes, as I had pred... read complete review
