Today, I (J) had my interview at the Amsterdam Consulate General.
It was a very quick and good experience for me.

If you come by car; park in the "Q-park Museumplein" parking garage under the Museumplein, the entrance is right across the "Concertgebouw" and under the Albert Heijn. This way you don't have to worry about getting back to your car on time or getting a parking ticket.

There is no need to be at the Consulate General any earlier than 13:15. This is just the line for getting in and going through security; not the order in which people are being served by the CO. The security guard will line people up outside first. Immigrants (including K1) line up at the front of the line and go in first, all Non-Immigrants have to wait and go in later.

OK. You have made it inside of the Consulate. Have your passport and original interview confirmation letter in hand, since you will need to show this to the security guard inside, before goi... read complete review

Today I (Fred) has my interview at the Amsterdam Consulate.

Because you cannot have any electronics (phones etc) with you, and parking
is pretty bad in that area, my buddy offered to drive me there, hang out,
and just "fly by" until he'd see me outside. Great!

--> If possible, this IS a good solution, otherwise, public transport is
a good thought on a day like this. Your mind isn't quite there..

So, it's December 4th, and pretty cold with a sharp wind. We get there by
1:05p, and nobody sight yet. We park, talk for a bit, and then I see someone I recognize (from the medical) walk right by. Oh, but wait! The entrance for the public is on the OTHER side of the gate!

I get out, grab my stuff, making sure nothing is in my pockets, and walk off. Sure enough, people are lining up, and the guard is checking names against a list, and then running a scan on each person. People are let into the bu... read complete review

My fiance's (Bart) experience at his interview:

I arrived to the Embassy 20 minutes before his appointment at 13:30. At 13:30 an officer came out to confirm we all had our documents in order (invite/ appointment letter and confirmation page).
One of the applicants was turned away because he forgot to register/confirm his appointment online. They said he could go to an internet cafe to log-in, register, and return to the embassy with the confirmation.

Don't forget that PHONES are NOT ALLOWED!!! The lockers at central station are only around 4 euros...use one.

We had to walk through a metal detector and wait in a small room. I had to give my passport to the guard at the metal detector.

I was called up to window 5 and gave them the following papers:
1. My invite
2. Two passport photos (US size, not European size). Most places can accommodate this request
3. Affidavit of Financial Support

The appointment was at 1:30 PM. But that's not when your actual interview is. You get there and in front of the building there's a tent for shelter. You stand under it and wait till a person comes out around 1:30 and starts calling names.

Here is why my experience was awesome and the 4 other people who were also there for their K1 interview was (probably) horrible.

First: RTFM (Read the freaking manual). Or in this case your interview instructions. 2 of the 4 other people there had their cellphones with them. If you have ANY electronics with you they will not let you in until they process everyone else without electronics first. Including non immigration appointments. Immigration appointments are called on first, unless you have an electronic device. Then anyone regardless of what kind of appointment goes before you.

The other 2 had no electronic device so they were let in along with me almost instantly. But they both had not read the instru... read complete review

I had my appointment at 13.30 and I was standing at the back of the line in front of the building at 13.20. The guard came out and called my name and told me to stand at the front of the line because I was the first appointment. Then he lined up the other appointments. We were all asked to show him our passport pics so he could check if they were correct. One lady got sent away to take new ones. The guard asked if I had any electronics, which I didn't. After scanning us all with a portable metal detector they let the first 3 of us inside and we went past a desk, where I had to show my interview letter and passport. Then we went through the metal detector after putting our folders in a seperate bin that went through a scanner too. I was careful to not wear any jewellery, shoes with metal parts or a belt. I left my bag outside with a friend, since you're not supposed to bring other stuff inside. I also had a plastic accordion folder with my papers in it and plastic paperclips on the shee... read complete review
