Tokyo embassy received our approval letter from NVC on January 5, 2009. We received our packet 3 (requested/sent original divorce decree, original birth certificate which is not late registered, and copy of current passport) from Tokyo embassy on January 9, 2009. Pretty straightforward so far huh? And so we wait......
January 29, we receive a preliminary interview letter/form requesting Baptismal certificate, previous passports, school records, all old/new ID cards, evidence of ongoing relationship. WHY???? But without hesitation or complaints, all documents requested were sent back to Tokyo embassy on February 10. And we wait again...... FOR 1 MONTH!!!!!!
March 10, after weekly follow up E-mails via appointment request page on Tokyo embassy website, we are finally granted an interview for March 23. We receive 221g after the interview requesting for another NBI clearance with beneficiary's married... read complete review

I-130 petition (DCF) on August 2008
Handed all papers to an embassy staff at a counter, waited for 30 minutes to pay the fee, waited another 45 minutes for the interview.
Questions asked to my husband (USC, petitioner) was:
- our history
- when we are going to move back to the US, and
- if he has any job prospect in the US
The officer also asked me (non-USC spouse) a couple of questions. They were:
- if I was on F-1 visa when I met my husband in the US and
- when I am going to take the IV interview
The wait was long but worth it because it was pretty easy. The officer even gave us some advise for the IV interview. We got an approval letter only a week later

I had a very positive experience at the U.S. Embassy in Tokyo for my K-1 interview. Consular officers were super friendly.
8:25 > Entered the U.S. Embassy. Showed my ID(passport) to the guard in the front. Went through airport style security check. Security guards will take all the electronic item (cell phone etc.) and food/drink until you leave the embassy.
8:29 > Entered consular section. Showed my ID again at the front desk. Was given a number, a clear folder, and an instruction sheet to put all the required documents in certain order. The clear folder also included a small plastic bag to put one ID photo in.
8:30 > Took a seat at waiting area. There are 10 windows to the immigrant visa section - all of them were active. There is a restroom, an ID photo booth, a pay phone, and a vending machine (for drinks) adjacent to the waiting area. Started putting all the documents in order according to the direction given.
9:1... read complete review
