My families Visa was approved on 3/30 although we had our interview on 3/15 we were given a 221g Denial. But mainly just needed to get other documents. We sent them in an within a week as promised the Visa was issued.
All I can say is that the Tokyo Consulate is one of the easiest and friendliest consulates in the world. Let me give you a walkthrough :
We had our interview on 3/15... We were coming from Aichi Pref. with 2 kids so we decided to drive and look for a hotel. Since our interview appointment was at 9:15... We took a taxi there around 9:30am. It was already pretty crowded, but everything was organized. It was more like going to a DMV to get your license renewed than what I expected for a visa interview. Everyone we talked to was friendly and my fiancee and I both went up to the window during the interview. The interviewer (tall guy who was nice) asked me to sit down while he asked my fiancee a few questions then I went back up there. We have a waiver to file also, so we thought she might get the third degree, but it was quick and fairly painless. I think we spent about an hour there overall. I wish all government offices were as well run.
