Visa Journey,

This is how it went down...

I woke up at 7am, left the house with my fianceé at 7:30am (she is visiting Ireland this week).

Got to Dublin at 11:30 am (I live far away)

Collected my medical results at 12 noon

Taxied it to the US Embassy

Arrived a little before 1pm

Waited outside with some other people (there were K-1's, CR-1's, Americans living here in Ireland renewing their passports, J-1's... a mixture of everyone!)

Entered the Embassy (which is like boarding a plane, same type of security!) and was told to join the que...

1. Name was called and paid $350 in CASH. Don't need a bank draft, but if you do bring a bank draft, make sure it is EXACTLY $350. One K-1 brought a bank draft for $400 dollars and she was told to leave the Embassy and go get one for $350... I felt bad for the girl, she clearly never read VisaJourney before!

Fiance arrived at 12:50 for 1:00 interview. Went through security and put his items in a locker. He was called up to an initial counter to pay and provide some preliminary documents (he couldn\'t remember which) that were outlined from packet 3. He paid $350 in bank draft. However, he found out that they DO accept credit cards and Euros. 80 Euros to $100 exchange if you pay in Euro cash. Exact change only. Then he sat down and waited.

While he waited, he could hear other people\'s interviews. He said he was appalled at how many ill-prepared people there were. People missing the fee completely, not bringing affidavit of support, missing the police cert and not bringing medical eval from authorized doctor in Blackrock. He also said, while he waited, he had conversations with two separate people who had overstayed their welcome and had to interview in order to get back in. One of them overstayed 10 years ago and wanted to go to the states to see his child and w... read complete review

Paul arrived on time to the embassy. They let him and he put all of his stuff in the locker. When he went into the room a man called him to the counter and he submitted the affidavit of support information, his original birth certificate (the man said he would not get the certificate back), DS-156 x 2 and DS-156K. He said that this man was very nice and also took one additional passport picture along with the $350.00 bank draft. The envelope he gave was slightly bigger than what they wanted (12x14), but it was really hard to find that size in Ireland. They were fine with the size difference.
He then sat back down and waited for another 1.5 hours and an American consular called him up. She asked a good few questions and was very snippy. She mainly was mainly asking contradictory questions and trying to trip Paul up in his answers. She asked:
-When did we meet?
-When did he propose?
-How many times did I come to Ireland?
-How many times did he come to A... read complete review

After a long wait we were relieved that the day of the interview had finally arrived! My interview was scheduled for 1pm. When I arrived at the US embassy in Dublin a line consisting of a few people had already started to form at the main entrance to the building. I joined the line which was steadily getting longer. A lot of people in the line had large x-ray envelopes and other documents so I knew they must have been there for the same reason as I was.

At around 12.50pm the guards at the gate to the Embassy began to let us in one by one. The guards checked my passport and crossed my name off a list. I walked through the metal detector. They took my phone, lip gloss and keys from me and kept them in a small locker. They gave me a label which I hung around my neck. Presumably it indicated why I was at the embassy and it also held a key that showed which locker my things were in (similar to a coat check).

I was carrying my large x-ray envelope, photos of mys... read complete review
