Overall, a good experience at the Mumbai consulate for my husband's IR-1 interview, but I knew once we got the interview date, it was unlikely we'd have any hiccups, since we have been married for a while now and I had already moved to the United States and made well over the minimum amount of money needed to sponsor my husband.
We found out about my husband's Feb. 23 interview date only the day before, but we were already planning to leave for an international trip in the evening of Feb. 23. We didn't want to reschedule the interview, because there were no open slots available on the U.S. appointment website for the next three months, so we just hoped that the consular officer could either get the visa ready the same day or allow my husband to drop off his passport on Monday after we returned from our trip.
Our appointment time was at 7:30 a.m., and we got there about 10 minutes before that, having been delayed by my husband's forgetting to print out the... read complete review

The officer was very straight forward and somewhat rude. Didn’t take time to review our paperwork. Asked a few questions about how we met, my family and their feeling, her family and their feelings followed by a few rude remarks and a 221g notice for more evidence. We immediately took our paperwork to the Dropbox location which isn’t far from the embassy and handed it in with our 221g notice. After waiting 11 heart wrenching days, they sent my fiancé’s visa back to her via blue dart with a nice pretty US visa stamp in it. Thank god.

Want to give back to the amazing community of visajourney that I took so many notes from during my immigration journey.
Interview was scheduled at 7.30AM. We were called to form a line and admitted inside the embassy at 7AM. Immigration and non-immigration interview sections are separate. Me and my husband were third in line for receiving token number; guy at Counter 1 took fingerprints and original civil documents. He asked some basic questions like what's your marriage date? who is with you? Has your visa ever been rejected/denied? and gave me the flier on domestic rights.
We then took the token and started the nervous wait to be called at the actual interview. Pretty soon we were up and we greeted a young American CO. He first asked me who was with me..and then asked my husband to wait in the seating area away from the interview window. He asked me:
When did you get married? Where? What area?
What's the highest level of education ... read complete review

My fiance stayed at Sofitel hotel (BKC) just 5 min walk to the consulate, which was very convenient. She went around 7:30 and joined the separate immigrant visa queue and let in. Then, Indian lady checked and collected the required documents (PCC, birth certificate, medical report, I-134, tax transcripts, w-2, previous marriage certificate & divorce decree for both of us. she returned the original (except for PCC, medical and I-134). she didnt want bank statement, pay stub or employment verification letter. since she was on h1-b before, they asked her if she has any paperwork; she didn't take them with her. they made a mark about it (not sure what the impact is , as of now)
after couple of hours, she got called up for interview. the officer was middle-aged american lady. she got grilled for a while (may be 15-20 questions) most of the questions are based on what is available on this site, like,
what is his name?
how did he meet you?
why do you want to get... read complete review

Hi,
So here is my story, Sorry if it is a bit long.
I am a Muslim, single mom of two children, divorced , met online( doing a project) with this man. He showed me interest but I rejected as he was a Hindu, and 10 years younger than me. Time passed by, we decided to meet. But because of my Pakistani origin I couldn't get Indian Visa and he couldn't get US visa, so we met in another country. Neither my parents were happy with all this nor his, he being the only child of his parents. After first meeting we decided to marry. To marry him he had to convert to my religion so he became a Muslim. We got married after a year in another country, being a destination wedding on the beach with no family members, Our witnesses were hotel manager and one of my now husband's friend. Before filing for I130, I was very upset so I collected courage and posted my first post here on VJ, telling this story and asked for an advice. I got so many negative comments and everyone was ju... read complete review
