The day started as badly as it could have, as the Uber that I'd booked for 5:30-5:45 a.m. slot left the EXACT moment I saw it, I tried to stop it by shouting but it didn't stop. Luckily, I was able to locate another taxi quickly AND he knew where the US Consulate was! With clear roads & no traffic in the morning, we were at the US Consulate in half the time, so it was only 6:05 when I got there. There were about a dozen people on the footpath near the Consulate, & I saw a girl who I thought was another visajourney-member (K1journey_16) as she'd mentioned on the India-thread that she was also going to have her interview on 7th February but I didn't approach her at that time since I wasn't a 100% sure. I walked around the area for a bit, & came back to the Consulate at around 6:45. The Indian staff from the Consulate asked for immigrant-visa people to form a line, everyone rushed there but non-immigrant visa people were turned away, & I was able to secure 4th place in the line, right beh... read complete review

After talking with my fiancee, she told me that she had a very straightforward and pleasant experience. She spent about 3 hours in the consulate in total. During her interview, she had questions such as "how did you and your fiancee meet", "how often has your fiancee visited you", "what does you fiancee do for a living", etc. (We used visajourney's interview question guide to help us prepare.) She wasn't thrown any curveballs and she wasn't taken off guard. My fiancee suspects that the decision to approve or deny a visa is, for the most part, made ahead of time and that the consulate officers use the interview as a means of verification.

We had our interview on 28th December at Mumbai Consulate. I went with my fiance to be present for her interview. The counselor did not want me to be be there at the interview counter- He asked me to sit down. He questioned my fiance - to make sure we were in fact not married and we were only engaged. Over all he wanted to make sure our petition was genuine. We had requested a translator. The translator was super nice and was happy to repeat the questions. We were approved.

The process at the consulate was pretty smooth and most of the consulate workers are friendly and helpful. The entire process for my wife took about 2.5 hours the questions asked were those that can be found in previous reviews so I won't repeat those here. But like someone stated before, this consulate is looking to give anyone they can a 221 g form. My current income is over 50k I just graduated college and got a new job(I submitted current employment letter, paystubs from last 6 months) my income from last year is lower but still above the poverty line, if you look at all the guidelines,Instructions, rules etc. for USCIS and NVC the petitioners current income and the income from last year is the only thing that should matter. Nope, this consulate gave my wife a 221 G saying we need to get a joint sponsor and that they need ORIGINAL 1040s and W2s from the joint sponsor. And according to the call center staff at us travel docs it can take 60 days to review the documents that have b... read complete review
