Review Topic: K1 Visa

Had an interview on the 24th at 7:30 a.m. Fiancee reached the embassy at 0630 in the morning and it was raining heavily. She had an umbrella, but the embassy does not provide a covered place to assemble. She said people were huddling under trees and whatever cover they could find. Just before 7 am, the VFS guys started asking to form a line for the immigrant visa and non immigrant visa and to have their appointment letters out.

VFS let them in and same thing going through security, turning in your cell phone if you have one, and any big bags, etc. Then VFS assigns you a token and that is your number for the rest of the day. My fiancee was the third one in, so her token was a low number. Anyways after that VFS staff calls her over, collects her DS-230s, DS-156, DS-156k, PCC, Birth certificate, demand draft of the voucher stating you have already paid, passport, and delivery confirmation letter, I-134, all the usual documents and did her fingerprints.

So here is the story that includes the interview experience:

Me and my USC wife got married this Feb. She has been living here for some time and also had a full time job so that made our DCF route easier. We filed the petition in Delhi in April and within 2 weeks my wife wrote to them and we got to know that it has been approved and moved to the Delhi consulate for processing the visa. By this time I had arranged all PCCs - India, Passport office and from Denmark as I have been living there for some years.

I received my Packet 3 and 4 together with the interview date which was 10th july.

I got my medicals done at Max in Delhi that costed me around 4500 INR. Meanwhile my wife went to the US to set up things for us and she found a job quickly.

I prepared the following files:

1. The basic - Marriage Cert, Birth Cert. Passport, PCCs etc - the docs that were asked officially.

2. I 864 file - I864 wife,... read complete review

So my wife's interview was scheduled on June 12th at New Delhi embassy. I (US citizen) decided to join my wife for the interview.

Stay:
I recommend Hotel Visaya in Panchsheel Park. It is a nice, clean hotel.

Arrival at the embassy:
So our interview was scheduled for 8:30 AM. We arrived at the embassy around 7:45 AM. The Delhi embassy does not allow you in until half hour before your appointment time therefore there is no point in arriving too early. When we arrived, there were 2 lines. One line going into the embassy was for people who had 8:00 o'clock appointment time and the other line on the other side of the road was for people with appointments scheduled for later time.

So we were waiting in the other area (in hot weather) until they started forming line for people with 8:30 appointment. While in the 8:30 line, the security guys at the embassy informed us that they don't allow big bags inside. We had to leave our empty ... read complete review
