I have a very positive experience with the Embassy in Budapest. Staff is professional, helpful and polite in person/via email/on the phone. I got an interview date super fast. I arrived to the Embassy 15 min earlier and spent exactly 1 hour inside, including my early arrival. First a lady went through all my papers and took them, then I had to wait some more. The interview was with the consulate who was a very kind man in my experience, it took about 3 minutes, i could not believe i was done so fast, I didn't even understand why I was so nervous before!! This is what he asked me (he took notes in the meantime):
- How did your relationship progress to where you are now? (or something like this) - I basically told him in big steps how our relationship started and the times we met in person.
- Was this your first time in the US when you visited him? (YES) Have you been back since? (NO)
- Has your fiancé visited you since? (YES)
- What does your fiancé work? ... read complete review

Very pleasant experience: I spent exactly 60 minutes at the Embassy. My appointment was at 10:00 am, arrived at 9:45 and came out at 10:45. They checked everything in my bags. Of course, they took my phone and I was allowed to bring in my water only when I drank from it in front of the security officer.
I got a number and waited to be called inside. I was called exactly at 10 am. A nice Hungarian lady took all my papers to check. Unfortunately, the reader on the computer didn't want to read my passport photo. She tried for a couple of minutes, then it worked. Phew.. I had to pay for the remaining 80 dollars(I had already paid the 160 at the MKB bank that morning, close to the Embassy as instructed.) Then I waited approx. 10-15 minutes and the vice-consul called me for the interview. It was a quite friendly conversation. It seemed to me that she asked a lot of questions but they were not painful at all. She typed everything in that I said. It wasn't longer than 10 mins.<... read complete review

The consulate works really fast and efficiently. I could schedule my interview by submitting the forms personally, I was even asked which date would be the best. My fiancé could accompany me, though he was asked to sit in the waiting area during the actual (5 minute) interview. They said I would get the visa on Monday (interview was on Thursday), but after we told them we were hoping to leave on Sunday, they promised they will try to do it earlier (depends on the finger print results as I got to know). I got a call later that day and could pick my visa up the same day. A really pleasant experience overall.

The Consulate was very flexible changing my date. I 've got a date one month before the original one.
I had the inetview at 9.00, I had to wait approx 1 hour after submitting some extra papers.
The Interview itself contained 5-6 questions (basic ones eg. where did you meet, have you met his parents...etc) while the consul was typing something on the computer . He was quite friendly and polite , ask some question about my work in Hungary, than he told me that I should come back at 3.00 pm to pick-up my visa.
Everything went smooth and organized.Good experience.
