My interview was scheduled for 03/24/09 at 8:30 a.m. I arrived at the embassy at around 8:10 a.m. and the line outside wasn't long at all. There were only 2 people in front of me, so it was pretty fast until I was allowed to enter the embassy. The security personnel was really friendly, unlike most security teams on airports.
After only a short wait of around 10 minutes, my number got called for the first time and I had to go to the famous window #23. They took my passport, my visa fee receipt and a passport picture. I had to retake the picture at a booth they have in that great waiting hall because I only had a picture where I am wearing my glasses which they didn't accept. Something about eyes and ears not visible enough. The very nice woman then told me what is going to happen next and that I should start to put my documents in a specific order. I already knew that was coming, so I was organized weeks before my interview. This measure is supposed to speed up the proce... read complete review

I was able to come to Germany to stand by Torsten while he was in the interview. Our medical appointment was at 730am, which took about an hour and a half. There were about 4 other people who were having their visa medical exams for the USA as well, so we were able to share stories and experiences while we waited. There was a problem with Torsens exam: he did not have his MMR vaccination which is required. The doctor sent us away with instructions to get the vaccination the next morning at Torstens house doctor and fax the confirmation back to the doctor in Frankfurt to complete the medical exam processing. We were at the doctor about 1.5 hours.
Our interview was immediately after the doctor at 930 am. We arrived at 920, were given the ticket, and went through security. Allow extra time for this if possible. Our number was called and we were given instructions to purchase postage and arrange our documents in a certain order. ... read complete review

It was super easy! Not really any reason to be nervous... even though that is always easy to say when it's over, I know
There was long line outside but I went to the immigration visa line, which was a lot shorter. (i was told to do so)
I got a number and had to wait to go to the security window. The guy looked at me funny cause my passport picture is a little old
I went in and had a seat on the far left. When I went to the first window I had to hand in my payment receipt and sit back down. After about 45 minutes I was called to another window. Strangely it was the same person than at the first window. She wanted some more papers (police certificate, etc.), explained the whole process to me and told me that the consul is going to call me up in a little bit. She didn't even want our co-sponsor papers even though my fiance does not make enough money (at least we thought so) but because they had his employment letter they w... read complete review

It was so easy and fast. I was out of there after 1,5 hours. My interview was scheduled for 8am and I have been there about 20 minutes before. I expected it to be harder than for a J1 internship visa but it wasn't. Just asked me where and how my fincé and I met, what he is doing for living and what kind of job I would like to get in the States. That's it.

Easy as pie! Here is the review my fiance sent me after he finished the interview: "Had to wait around and hand in various certificates etc whilst they processed the application, but in the end they asked over the counter only where we met, and what you and I do for a living..so in less than 2 mins “interview” they said the visa will be processed – subject to fingerprint check..which has always been clear when travelling to the us…so they will mail to me in the next days …hooray…"
