Review Topic: IR-1/CR-1 Visa

we arrived there around 7.35 for an interview at 8. We were sent to counter 22, to pay and hand in the passport. Few minutes after to the next counter, where they took my fingerprints and provided me with some leaflets.
around 10 past 8 I was called for the interview, took the oath, was asked just a few things.
All together we were in the consulate for 50 minutes, of wich 35 minutes was security check and waiting :-)
Due to technical problems they were not able to say when I will get my passport back. (I've read that they are printing visa's at this time but have a back log). Luckily we won't travel for another 3 months.

My fiance was the one that went to the interview, he showed up early by 45 minutes to his 8 am apt. but decided to start waiting in the line outside, they actually ended up seeing him early and everything was done within 30 minutes. They asked him three questions, 1)How did we meet 2) what were the names of my children and to tell them something about each child 3)Where do we plan to marry They also talked about my fiance playing soccer and if we would play in America. My fiance said it was all very easy and he was surprised the interview was at a window, he thought it would be a sit down interview. Now we just need the glitch to be fixed so he can receive his passport and visa. Other than that, don't worry and it was way easier than we expected.

Arrived there about 40 minutes early. Parking spots were indeed pretty rare around there but I got lucky and found one not too far down the road.

There was a huge line for non-immigrant visas but I could get right to the counter and get my number.
The security check was business as usual. They gave my car key a little bit of a stare since it's a key card with a tiny battery and doesn't look like an actual key. They figured it out though.
In the main building the receptionists handed me a sheet with information what will happen today and directed me straight to a counter to hand over my passport and pay any other fees.
There was a little bit of a line but it didn't take very long. The guy at that counter took my passport and put it into our file. He took one half of my number/ticket thing and told me which counters will call me later on. I didn't have to pay any more fees.
After about 20 minutes I was called to one of said counters. They ha... read complete review

Overall I had an excellent experience with the visa process in Frankfurt. I had an appointment for 9:30 and only arrived there at 9:36 because of a delayed flight. I worried about being late but that did not matter at all. I went through security and made the tours to the different windows until I finally had my interview - which consisted of exactly two questions (in German): 1. How did you meet your fiancee? 2. What does she do for a living? The rest was a nice chat. My medical files had not arrived at the consulate yet (I had the medical 3 days prior to the interview) so my visa request was denied for the moment but will automatically go ahead as soon as the required documents arrive from the doctor. Overall I spent some 90 minutes at the consulate and can only say that everybody there was very friendly and helpful and that the whole process was not as problematic as I thought it would be.

Interview: June 12

We (a friend of mine and I) decided to take public transportation to get to the Consulate to avoid traffic and the hassle of trying to find a parking spot (we saw later that there were a few open spots right across the street from the Consulate though). The subway station Gießener Straße is right around the corner (5-10 Minute walk).
When we walked up to the main entrance of the consulate we saw lots of people waiting in front of it. There were two lines: “non-immigrant visas” (maybe two people were in that line) and “all others” (empty). I was able to give my phone and wallet to my friend and got in the “all others” lane. All I had on me then was my folder. I got called up to the window right away and had to present my passport, the invitation letter and my DS160 print-out. I was then given a ticket with a number on it and asked to enter the Consulate (a glass door to my right). There, I went through security (similar to that at ... read complete review
