Review Topic: K1 Visa

My fiance (CR Citizen) and I (USC) both attended the K1 interview. We arrived super early and spent about an hour and a half across the street at the little shopping center. We went over to the embassy about 15 minutes before our appointment time. We waited in the line marked 'Visitors', where there was already a man waiting. The procedure was unclear, so we rang the buzzer and told them we had an appointment for 1:30, and they said someone would be out shortly. A young lady came out and asked what time our appointment was for. I answered, "1:30," and she looked confused for a second, then looked at her sheet, and then asked, "Oh, he is the beneficiary and you're the petitioner?" to which I replied, yes. She then asked if we had any electronics and we told her we had cell phones, and she told us we couldn't enter with our cell phones.

Years ago you used to be able to go into the little front security office and leave your cell phone in a locked zipper bag and then... read complete review

Arrived early, but wasn't allowed in until 15 minutes prior, as others have stated. Be sure if you have a smart watch, leave it behind! This didn't cross my mind. We were able to rent a locker across the street for 2000 colones.
After going through security, we stopped at the desk to get our ticket number. Went inside, and waited about 20 minutes, and we were called to the window for the document collection. The gentleman spoke to me in English and Spanish, and my Fiance in Spanish. I had a large accordion file with everything organized. He collected the civil documents, medical envelope, and the I-134. I had brought bank statements, bank letter, employment letter, recent pay stubs, W-2, 1040, and tax transcripts. All he wanted was the 1040! I showed him the tax transcripts, but he said he didn't need them. He did mention to us "be sure that you do not get married before arriving in the USA", apparently people do, and of course, if nulls the visa. We told him we definitely woul... read complete review

Arrived on time. Initial wait time was about 30 min. first window was a review of all our paper work to make sure we had everything. Then waited about 2 1/2 hour for the interview. Make sure to bring a sweater it get really cold in the waiting room. I mean really cold. We were both shivering by the time the interview started. The Intrview was fast they only asked how we met and where we plan to live. The lady cunducting the interveiw was very polite and bilingual, very plesent. she approved our Visa though, she did let us know that beacuse the consulates office in Nicaragua was closed that it would take upto 10 days to get my fiances visa. It took almost 14 days to get her visa. My fiance was on a plane to the US the day after getting her Visa. We married 7 days later.

I rated our experiance with only a 3 beacuse i was planing to fly back iwth my fiance but could not wait more than 7 days again it to 14 days to get her Visa after it was approved.

I attended the interview with my Nicaraguan fiance on 11/19/18. We arrived 30 mins early and had to wait outside for 15 mins. It's important that you read the appointment instructions and do not bring bags, purses, cell phones, etc. They will not allow inside the embassy. A lady in front of us brought a purse and the officer told her there were lockers for rent around the block.

Once we entered they opened the sealed medical package to check and then closed again (had no problems with this). They also kept the CD with rays at the front with security. We received it when we left the embassy at the end.

We entered the room and waited less than 5 minutes. The first person we spoke to was Tica. She was bilingual and spoke to me in English and my fiance in Spanish. She had a checklist for docs and collected everything. We brought the original civil docs (with translations) and she asked if we had made copies. We hadn't (not a big deal) so she made copies and re... read complete review

Anybody would be nervous under such circumstances, after waiting more than a year. But once there for our appointment... There was no wait for the first pass, which was the detailed review of documents. The first agent who attended is was perfectly bilingual with no accent in either language. All agents who helped/interviewed us were professional and courteous. The interview was mildly stressful, but I'm sure that was more about our own anxieties after all that build up and work to hey to that point. That said, the interviewer was patient and, of not exactly casual, was friendly enough, especially towards my stepdaughter.
