We got BLUE!!
Would have been nicer to get the Visa, but we will have it in a few weeks. Following is Yumei's letter to me following the interview.
Dear Rick,
I ran around these days lately. I thought I would hear good news today. At 5am I left the hotel where I stayed, I went to the gate of the consulate and waited in line. I took a suitcase full of materials and copies of emails, etc. I was the one who took most materials. When people saw that I took sufficient materials and photos and copies of emails, they all thought I could pass the interview for sure. We were checked one by one following procedure. Everything went well when I answered their questions and their inquiry on my materials, and I gave complete materials to them. I knew, you were very careful and you had prepared sufficient materials. I fully trust you. When the visa officer said you had not provided tax return report of 2007, I took out all your documents, and I pointed at document with number 20... read complete review

My wife was very well prepared. We spent many hours reading all the posts of those who got blue papers and we learned from them. We had "tons" of evidence. The officer asked her for photos of her and her daughter together as she was growing up, he asked for the 1040 Tax forms and he very throughly read a statement I had notorized about my former marriage, our meeting and why we got married as well as me explaining my trips abroad. I think he saw how well prepared we were and moved on to someone else. The intervview lasted about 8 minutes and she got pink.

Candidates called for 7:15 AM. Several lines on the sidewalk outside the consulate. Consulate personnel kept the area free of bystanders. I waited in line with Xu. There were a couple hundred people in line, apparently for many different visa categories, students, family reunification, etc. I only saw one or two westerners that whole morning. I had expected to see more Caucasian sponsors with their beneficiaries. Consulate personnel called out instructions with megaphones, very difficult to hear because of traffic noise. K-1 lines were to the left. Processing proceeded quickly and promptly. Xu got an admission card after they checked her passport and appointment letter. We went to the fourth floor where she was admitted and stood for a few minutes in another line before proceeding to the fifth floor without me. At about 10:15 she was back down on the fourth floor with her pink slip. Although the internet scoop was that 80% are approved the first time, she had the feeling from obser... read complete review
