Arrived Montreal Consulate at 7:10 AM ... second one there.
Beauitful Day 25C
Doors Opened 7:30AM ... I was first in .. only let two in at time.
asked for my appointment Letter and passport.
Security gentleman took a second look at the plastic expandable file folder I had full of Information. He looked at the other security and she said it is ok.
He sent it into a xray scan and the third security person said its ok ..
He proceeded to due a typical security entrance process other than they wiped down my passport with a white round pad and took it to a machine ( think snif for explosives..residue)
He asked me to walk thru scanner and then took a hand scanner to finish the job.
he handed me a small white square " A" and said this is for later for window 9, you are first up.
But first go sit down in the chairs down the steps in front of the lower floor elevators.. and wait for a securi... read complete review

Had a 1pm interview on the 11th of June.
I'm from Ontario - I didn't transfer but somehow my interview ended up in Vancouver... It was well worth the money spent on airfare considering how quick it was! We stayed in the Travelodge in North Vancouver. NOT downtown, but within a short ($10) cab ride to downtown. Checked out the Aquarium, the suspension bridge, Science World and a large portion of downtown.
INTERVIEW
Arrived at 12:45, went up to the door on the aforementioned incredibly not American embassy looking building. The lady there told me my interview wasn't until 1 and to come back then. Okaaaay. So fiance and I went and sat down on some benches just on the other side of the embassy. Two other couples showed up (I later learned both K3s) and went right in. So I went back up, previous lady was gone and new ones let me right in... of course, now I was last in line. Thanks lady! Security check was easy, as I kn... read complete review

The interview was about 10 minutes and very conversational. Basic questions about how did we meet, how long did we date, when did we marry, why were you attracted to her, where will you settle, what do you plan to do in the U.S. Why did you choose the U.S. over having your wife immigrate to Canada.
Both of the other K interviewees that day had problems because they did not have originals of key documents (divorce certificates and police certificates).
For my case I was approved on the spot and told to return that afternoon.
Other useful things: Even though there is a line up for "visa applicants" go directly to the security guard and tell them you are there for a "K Visa appointment" You jump to the head of the line and go right to your interview room. Remember to do it when you pick up the visa as well (in the afternoon there is a line for people picking up their visas). Basically just tell anyone official looking that you are there for a K visa and you get "spec... read complete review

Vancouver K-1 Interview: June 4, 2007 @ 10am
Just a little background information: I was originally going through the Montreal consulate and then transferred to Vancouver. I have my wedding scheduled for August 18, 2007 and yes, while I know I wasn't supposed to schedule anything before having the visa, things got held up in Montreal (4-7 months of waiting at least) and I needed to get my visa asap. I made plans to visit an aunt in Calgary and had things transferred to Vancouver with very little difficulty, definitely the best thing I've done yet.
Hotel: I wanted to get a hotel that has been mentioned by some of the others who went to Vancouver, but none were available because of a big World Physical Therapy convention going on. I ended up going on to Hotwire, picking the general area around the consulate and choosing the 5-star option. I ended up with the Pan Pacific Vancouver. A verry nice hotel, $159 per night, pricey, but worth it. It was about a 7 mi... read complete review

Vancouver was wonderful to deal with! They got me in for an Interview 9 days after I faxed them my checklist. They treat K Visa people like VIP! You get ushered right in and up the stairs, right into the elevator to floor 20 and you have a seat right in front of the windowed booth area. I was there for K3 and two other girls were there for K1. There was one man handling all three of us. He would call me up to the window, ask me a few questions, tell me to have a seat, call the next girl up,etc. It was all pretty painless until he got to the Medical results. He asked me what medical condtion I suffered from. Turns out the Doctors office checked off the box that said I suffer from a Class B Medical condition!! They finally got a hold of the Doctors office and I was told that this would have to be corrected and asked if I could come in the next day, instead of that afternoon to pick up my Visa. Aside from the glitch with the Doctors office, it was very quick and easy.
