Hello VJ.
I am very happy to announce that after such a long wait I had my interview yesterday morning in Montreal and I was approved. I wanted to write about my experience to help those who are going after me as VJ was invaluable for our application process.
1) I drove to Montreal from SW Ontario on thursday the 16th because my interview was the 17th at 8am. I stayed at the Best Western Europa on Rue Drummond which was an older but well appointed hotel. It was expensive for a small room but it was 5 or 6 blocks from the Consulate building and easily walkable right down B. Rene Levesque. I had read another VJer's experience and found out that despite the interview being at 8am they open the doors at 7:30 but to arrive well before that. I left the hotel at 6:30 and arrived by 6:45am. I was second in line at that point behind another couple that had stayed at the same hotel but they drove. The line grew pretty quickly and was 10 or 15 people by 7:30. The gu... read complete review

Friendly overall, but quite daunting when things don't work quite right.
Our interview was at 1pm and we made sure to only bring the allowed items. Security was friendly yet serious. Got whisked up to the 20th floor where we waited about 20 minutes and then got called up to the first window. A very friendly lady took our papers and told us to sit down.
After 1 hour and 20 minutes we got called up to the second window. The first task was to get my fingerprints read. That didn't go so well - it's super finicky and after about 4 tries and she got quite annoyed!
After that, she asked when we met, where we met, when we got engaged and when we plan to marry. Also asked if I'd met his parents etc. My fiance's parents wrote us a very touching letter of support that she glanced at. She also asked for photos and you could tell she enjoyed this part of her job.
Got approved and picked up the visa at 12:30 the next day.

I arrived at the Consulate at 7:15 a.m. and there were already 4 people waiting. At 7:30 a.m. the door opened. The security guard checked my letter and passport, then let me in. I had to wait before proceeding through the next door to the security check. When my turn came, the security guard asked me for my appointment letter and passport. I was then asked to empty my pockets. All my pockets, even the ones on my coat even though I had to take the coat off so it would go through the x-ray machine. The security guard who took care of me was a bit cold but ok in all respects. He's got a job to do and did it well. Once my pockets were emptied, I walked through the metal detector and then he checked me out with the handheld metal detector because I triggered the alarm. Silly me, I had forgotten to take my belt off and it has a trophy buckle on it. Plenty of metal to set off the alarm! Once he was satisfied, I put everything back in my pockets and he gave me back my letter and passport, alon... read complete review

First let me say that this is my first post on visajourney.com despite being a frequent visitor for several months. The community has been EXTREMELY helpful and the K-1 process wouldn't have been anywhere near as smooth without it.
Question: is it unusual to receive an appointment letter just a few days before the interview? I was wondering when I'd hear about my appointment (Packet 3 returned to Montreal early in September) so I sent an email to the consulate on October 8. They wrote back saying that a letter was being sent for an interview on October 22. By Friday, October 17 I still hadn't received the letter so I wrote the consulate again and they faxed me a copy (the letter arrived in the mail on Monday October 20). Thank God for email!
I arrived in Montreal last night and walked past the consulate (so I knew where to go in the morning) on the way to my hotel (The Embassy Suites on St. Antoine - less than a 10 minute walk to the consulate).
